It has been interesting trying to get my daughters to recognize that getting hits 3 out of 10 (or getting on base 4 out of 10) is considered good. Years of rec and lower level travel shaped their expectations... I certainly like them shooting for getting on base a lot more, just don't want them getting too down on themselves. As most adults all know, you get hits 4 out of 10 and you're a Hall of Famer.
You should expect to get a hit every time..and then when that inevitably doesn’t happen you need to flush it. Admittedly I was horrible at the latter..DD is much better at it then I ever was.

The ones that are circled could be legit. You can't pencil whip HR's. BUT look at those K's. My take on this. Iowa's premiere players are playing TB during the summer and are foregoing HS ball. The best pitchers are also not playing HS either. Yes the hits very well could be legit as well as the HR's but who are they hitting against???? I've seen plenty of strong girls whack the ball over the fence every other AB against front toss, but when they face someone throwing 60 plus, K city baby.

One of my points a few months ago, is you should have a certain number of AB's for your stats to count towards All Conference Awards. A .576 avg with 63 AB's vs a player who hit .427 with 120 AB's should not be given preference over the 2nd batter. IMO.

In VA, we have 20 regular season HS games ... How many regular season games do they play in Iowa that gals are playing 36 games and getting 118 AB's considering the BB's, HBP's ? Also the amount of runs their teams must have scored and how many slaughters there must have been ? Are all fields fenced there ?

Regional First Round: July 1-7
No more than 3 games per day

So, 6 weeks of games. Most teams play 4-5 days during the week and at least 3 Fri/Sat 'Tournaments' (usually 2-3 round robin games). Our size of school is JV/V double header 4 or 5 nights a week (plus maybe a Saturday). Some larger schools are V double header. So you can get 4-8 games per week.

Looking at standings, most teams are getting 30-35 games. Some as few as 25 and some as many as 40 games.

There is a run rule: 12 after 3 and 10 after 5.We get some run rule games (especially if you end up playing a much smaller school). The best team in our class was 32-8 and won 16 of their games by run rule. Our team is middle sized and won 7 of our 29 games by 10 or more.

Most schools have their own field just for Softball (some have 2 fields) with full fences at around 200'. Some fences are 5' some are 10'. All have plastic tile over the top for safety. We're lucky to have 2 fields. The nicer one is locked and only for HS games (it does hold water longer with concrete around it). The other is open and used for JH games, when the good field is too wet, tournament weekends, or just to walk up and practice with your kids on (it is not gated).

What's your school's situation?

Just to add to the strength of competition element, DD's d3 college team lost almost 30 points on their team batting average during the NCAA tournament of 10 games. Their SOS was decent at around 30 at the start of the tournament but up to 14 by the end according to the Massey ratings.

DD a sophomore batted 540 in high school and on her TB national team bats around 330 both these averages are with few strike outs. I would say less than half the teams her high school faced has good pitching. in TB almost every team has good pitching. these numbers were very close to other players on her TB teams when talking with other parents. DD was the lead off batter batting every game and only had 68 AB. that a huge number of AB's on the list

I compared my daughter's TB team from our TB stats and their HS stats. Most of them hit about 100 pts better in HS than TB as a point of reference.

Still, if your hitting over .600 in TB, somethings very interesting there.

I agree. If someone is hitting over .600 in TB and they are HS age, I’d say they are either playing low-level competition or are a phenom. Or maybe the scorekeeper has no idea what they are doing.

I recall a college camp that my dd went to when she was an incoming freshman. She was placed in the high school group. The college coach came to her group and asked, "How many of you are hitting over .500 this year in travel ball." A bunch raised their hands. Then she told them they were not playing at the level of competition they should be playing.

How did they know what they were hitting? Do parents/coaches really share with their kids/players their statistics during the season? To me that is weird..what is the point? 🤷‍♂️

I would bet that the majority of players have a pretty decent idea of what they are hitting. Have you ever seen the parents with the scorebooks in the stands? Today, they are also keeping score on phones or tablets.
