It has as much to do with proper timing as it does a degree of resistance. The player needs enough time to create resistance... or firm up, if you will. As a general rule of thumb, I would say that a player needs to become proficient in keeping their body from needing to take a step forward after the pitch... all the while preventing the nose from getting in front of the belt buckle. Over the belt buckle is perfect for a drop... and just slightly behind it is all you need for a rise.
Tell you what..... Watch them both (Ueno and Abbott) doing this 9:00 to release adduction (elbows to sides) AND front-side resistance and core tightening over and over and over again. Emulate either, or some combination of both, and you'll be doing pretty darned good.
