correcting spin on change-up

I agree with Bill, The best changeup has a slight forward rotation. The greatest pitchers I ever saw all had change-drops.

If the change has enough speed differential between the pitcher's fastest pitch and the change, I agree with the theory that it doesn't matter what kind of spin it has, it will be effective. As long as it comes in flat and it looks like a strike, one of two things generally happen, either the batter is just frozen or they are so far out in front they don't make contact. When I work with girls just starting at the younger age groups I stress the change has to be thrown for a strike. Batters at younger levels and up to HS many times just can't pull the trigger on a well thrown change and if the change isn't a strike it just a missed opportunity. At higher levels it may be a different story.
