Three theories
1 - girls mature earlier than boys.
2 - there is some sub-par pitching in HS softball
3 - softball bats are hotter than BBCOR bats

Too bad the 13YO boys aren't to compete at the same level as the 13YO girls, who play on the same size fields as they do in College and the NPF.

I looked up the stats for PAC-12 softball. As of May 10th they had 389 HRs in 223 games and 11,657 ABs. That’s 1.74 HRs per game and 1 HR every 30 ABs. For the baseball team through May 12th it was 228 HRs in 244 games and 16,563 ABs. That’s .93 per game and 1 in every 72.64 ABs.

The 10 top HS teams in HRs in Ca hit 380 in 7450 Abs and 259 games. That’s 1.47 per game and 29 ABs per HR. For baseball in Ca the 10 top HR hitting teams hit 211 in 7806 ABs and 277 games. That’s .76 per game and 1 in every 37 ABs.

Since professional SB is about 1.5 per game and MLB is 1.17 per game, it sure seems to me that SB at any level hits HR at a much higher rate than BB at the same level. It also seems to me that while in SB the HR rate for the top 10 HS teams in Ca is about the same as professional SB, in HS baseball, the top 10 HR hitting teams in Ca hit them at roughly half the rate as in MLB.

That seems to indicate it’s a lot easier to hit HRs in SB at the lower levels than it is to hit them in baseball’s lower levels. That tells me SB has managed to get it right by keeping the game much more constant through the different levels.
