make sure you work on 3-0 strategy after they learn how to recognize that they hit the ball…

My very first day as a coach: HS tryouts for a brand new team. My DW was the head coach, but I created the tryout plan.

After watching the girls throw for maybe 45 seconds I went up to my DW and said "We can't do any of this" and just got rid of the plan. I can't find the plan anymore, but I remember that one of the infield drills was working on turning double plays. Instead we spent most of that day showing the girls how to use their gloves and which end of the bat to hold.

I was expecting a group of girls who, if not good, at least had played, knew the sport, etc. I believe four of the girls there had some experience.

So, uh, moral of the story: How good are these 8u/10u players? Do they all know how to play a little? Or are you going to have half a team of girls who show up on day one without a glove?
