I bet this doesn’t happen often, daughter has a wicked change up, it is about 15 MPH slower that the FB it drops and curves away from a right hander. Against one of the better hitting team 18U in our area.

Coach calls a change first pitch of inning, weak grounder to short batter thrown out. Second pitch coach calls change up, pop up to second. Third pitch coach calls change, up pop up to catcher. Three pitches in the inning, three change up and three outs.

It was the meat of the order, 3,4 and 5 hitters.

Glad to hear of a coach calling the change that way. It can be a very effective strategy, along with throwing 2 in a row to a batter sometimes. Always extra satisfying when it's the 3-4-5 hitters too!

We have actually called 3 change ups in a row to a batter and struck her out swinging at all 3. Her dad was furious! LOL

I watched some of the NPF games and noticed they use the change as many as three pitches in an at bat. Seems they rely on it more that college teams.

A good change a few miles slower and add some movement and it can be a great pitch.

18UA DD pitched against the best lineup of her life 2 weeks ago at the KC ASA tournament. She was able to freeze #2 & #4 batter early in the game and got a K's looking with a change up. A few innings later #3 batter is up again. Two called strikes, one curve, one change up. DD and catcher decided to throw another change up..... bad idea or at least bad spot to put the ball...

#3 batter took a perfect change up below her knees waaay over the fence. The HR wasn't a game changer that was the 5th run in a 5-2 loss (the opposing team eventually won the tournament giving up only those 2 runs the whole tourney) but -- DD was frustrated by it. She thought she was being clever by going two in a row and it was a pretty good change up to boot. My response was that since the batter hadn't taken a swing in the AB yet AND it was 0-2 that the change up should have been off the plate by a lot.

Lesson learned.

We did this last weekend, 3 in a row. After each CU, 3rd base coach says watch for FB.

Why do people get so upset when a change up gets rocked? When it comes down to it, if a pitcher hits their spot with a pitch, regardless of what that pitch may be, they most likely will be successful. If they miss their spot, bad things normally happen, probably just more so, more often with the change up.
