Isn’t Richard Schenck “Teacherman”?

And this thread is a great example of how no two people seem to speak the same dialect when trying to talk about hitting. It’s maddening .

If I could jump in here, I think what he is saying is that snapping the barrel for a 12 yr old is stupid. I agree. Strengthen the hands, good idea. Play around with running start idea ,OK. But to make it sound like this is the only way to do it is silly. Over the falls ,one legged swing is not the best swing for most fastpitch hitters. Just because Barry Bonds can hit HRs off his back leg does not make it the best swing. Coming from a golfing perspective, "over the falls", "one legged" and "the bat (turn shifts the weight)" would equal weakness, slappy, not using your mass(weight) correctly. If you were to take a 11 year old, 82 lbs. young lady and tell her to swing like Barry Bonds, you would be doing her a great disservice.

If a mechanic is used by pros it is likely efficient. Swings of 12yo's should strive to be efficient as well.

Regarding this "snapping" that is being advocated .... please explain the concept of "snap". What is the movement taking place (is it supination of the rear forearm)? Where in the swing is the action of "snap" located?

Let me revise a bit... I dont agree that the wrist needs to be loose and whippy ...I do believe that supination is " short lived" and later than NOW

How late do you believe supination is in the swing? Do you believe one should supinate the rear forearm through impact? Try it ... you won't like it.

Focus on a reactive swing

Focus on turning the barrel to the ball

don't FOCUS ON SNAPPING THE BAT REARWARD

What worked for most is the felling of the bat down to and up through

The focus of the forearm/wrist supinating early guarantees the barrel will dump.

Too steep

Theres a spot in between.

The rear arm adducts as pressure is applied to the handle to launch...Then supination and swivel to the ball occurs

From this I take it that the 'snap' that folks are talking about is at 'swing launch'.

Sounds similar to something Swingbuilder was advocating.

What ever you call this is what I like.

Are you agreeing that supination of the rear forearm is after 'swing launch' and takes place going into/towards an upright-vee/swearing-in-position?

See the still photo I posted.

See the hand and wrist have not " snapped! " !

Still trying to grasp what folks mean with the term 'snapped'.

Here it sounds like snap is a description of the 'hand' and 'wrist' relationship ... or is it the 'hand' & 'wrist' relative to the 'forearm'? Can you show a photo of what you would consider a 'snapped' orientation?
