So Cal
It has NEVER taken me longer than 3 days to break in a catchers mitt, working on it for about an hour or two each day...

I'm guessing you haven't tried a kip leather Vinci catcher's mitt - LOL. The palm pad on those things is a beast to break down.

Haha, nope. I do my research and don't buy a mitt that people constantly complain about taking forever to break in. Not saying I couldn't do it in about a week or so. I love a good challenge.

The Vinci mitts definitely take a long time, even with significant break-in measures. Once game-ready, however, they are fantastic!

I own a Vinci JVC-22 and have broken in two others of that same model. And those are steer hide, not Kip leather and they were crazy stubborn! One was a pain, one was ridiculous, and the last one with the super slick, smooth leather was just a monster!! And as Eric said, it's the palm pad wayyyy more than the leather! Let it cool down 5 degrees and she goes right back to where she was before all the work you just put into it!!

To answer the OP, I have used Glove Whisperer and he did a good job. My daughter had a Vinci outfielder's glove for over a year that just was never going to be broken in without some help. I spent a bunch of time working on it but never got it flexible enough for her to use. She is opposite handed from me so I couldn't play catch with it to help her out. After I sent the glove in, he called me and we had a 15-20 min discussion about the glove, how it fit, her hand size, how to care for it, etc. I learned a lot about how a glove should fit and flex to get optimum use of it. Unfortunately for us, the glove is too big for her hand and will never work the best for my DD. So I paid $50 to learn that lesson.

I had to put a mafia style beating on an 11" Vinci Jr. For my son in order to get it to where he can close it. It is definitely the pad. I cannot imagine the catcher's mitt. It is steer hide and it is still looking great. My daughter has an AJB74 Akademia steerhide glove. She loves that glove but it is floppy after only one season.
