Are you referring to the investigation in to Mizzou's softball coach last year?
My gut reaction was similar to most of yours and assumed that this was the university retaliating against coach Lotief because he raised Title IX issues. But reading some of the complaints from former players... either they are lying or he deserved to be fired.

I know it takes a certain kind of person to build a "program", but at what cost to the well being of the players?

If those allegations are true he should be banned from coaching softball at any level. I don't care how well he runs his practices.

Missing are the photos of the 19 or 20 players who sat in on an interview in support of Coach Lotief. Missing also is the petition that a vast majority of the players signed.

If he is a charismatic bully, a few targets with a lot of support would fit the MO. I don't know him whatsoever, so I have no idea if he's guilty at all. But support does not necessarily negate the accusations.

I am curious do you believe that he may have brought some this upon himself by carrying a 28+ team roster year after year?
After reading all of the allegations in the letters by these players and former players, it seems unlikely that so many would have nearly identical stories and memories. If the investigation finds that these allegations are true, he and his entire staff should not only lose their jobs but be facing possible charges as well (at minimum for the physical abuse that some were subjected to). What a horrific environment for these girls.
As many of us are on the search for a college for our girls to play at, stories like this terrify me and make me want to get to know coaches very well before dropping my DD off with them. I can't imagine my kid being subjected to this for four years.
