When there is an IF hit and the defense ignores the batter, goes for the lead runner and fails. Everyone is safe. Is it scored a Fielders Choice?
I have always scored it that way, but someone was just telling me it's not an FC unless an out is made.
It depends in most cases it would be a FC.

If in the official scorers opinion the batter would have been safe at 1B even if the fielder tried to make a play on her instead of the lead runner it would be a 1B instead of a FC.

One example might be ball deep in the hole at SS; SS tries for lead runner at 2B but is safe. If it would have taken an exceptional throw to get runner at 1B that's likely an IF hit.

If on the other had it would have been a routine play at 1B but SS tried to get lead runner at 2B and did not it would be a FC.

So what is it when the batter bunts and there is no way they could get her at 1st but the runner on 1st is so slow that they get her at 2nd? 😄

If there was ever any doubt your DD is a slapper, you just cleared it up :)

When no out is made it should be scored as UFC- Unattached Fielders Choice which records an errorless play with no corresponding safe hit or out.

Eg a) With a runner at 2nd base and less than two out, a bunt is fielded by the 3rd base player and thrown to SS covering 3rd base. The runner from second, by good base running or sliding is called safe. The fielder has made the correct choice to play the advance runner and there has been no error. This is scored UFC5. It can be compared to a stealing runner beating a throw to second- there is no error by the catcher or fielder.

b) c) Bottom 7, tied score, runner at third, less than two out. Ball is hit to 3rd base, who, rather than risk the runner scoring or the throw to 1st, or attempting the 5-3-2 double play, holds the runner at 3rd to prevent the scoring of the winning run and makes no other play. No safe hit can be given to the batter as the out at 1st was a strong possibility had it not been for the game situation.

(i) There must be NO ERROR on the play, and
(ii) There must be, in your judgment, reasonable chance of making the out or the wrong play has been made and an error should be scored.

Unattached Fielders Choice appears to be an Australian term. It's not something I've heard of nor is there much on the internet about it.
