We are traveling to see DD1 this weekend. DD2 is bringing some softball gear. For those of you who fly a lot, can she bring her metal cleats in her carry on bag?

I agree with knightsb that it shoudl not be a problem. However, I travel every week and one thing I found is that TSA is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get. You may make 20 trips with something in your carry on that has never been a problem, but all it takes is one TSA agent with their own interpretation or agenda and you have a problem. If you have checked your bags and some idiot decides her cleats are an issue, you are screwed. At a minimun you will have to leave the queue and go check the bag. Then you may or may not make your flight. Unless there is a compelling reason to put them in a carry on, I would put them in a checked bag.

riseball, I agree with you regarding TSA, however, the reason DD takes everything in a carry on is two years ago playing in Atlanta, Delta lost her checked bag that had all her softball gear (glove, bat, uniform, etc...). She had to borrow gear and uniforms from other players to play on Saturday. Delta finally found her bag so she had her gear on Sunday. Ever since then, she takes everything she needs to play the in a carry on (except the bat). She has flown probably 10 times with the metal cleats in her bag. In addition, when they have an indoor facility lined up for practice (at these away events), she will wear her turf shoes on, with her metal cleats in her carry-on.

I saw the U of A baseball team, at the Tucson airport, last week. They each carried a backpack and their glove was hooked to the straps. I thought it was odd or interesting.
I bet it is a rule, that the coach made.

Great way to know at a glance that everyone has their glove. :)

Knightsb - That's been my take on it too except for the catchers gear & bag? Flying is such a crap shoot these days it's tough to plan around. Has anyone explored shipping (FedEx, UPS, etc.) their gear to a hotel or some facility near their destination? Cost/benefit analysis anyone? ;-)
