You sir, are already way ahead of the game just spending time with you DD. Keep it up and take some time to enjoy it and have fun. Nice job Dad!

Believe me, I appreciate it. Thank you. We went to a softball camp this weekend in the Blue Ridge mountains, sunny weekend, the colors of fall, watching her play softball, getting a tour of the college. I will look back on these years as the glory days for sure! It's really fun.

One thing she can't do is dive. ... Well, she can dive and has caught balls after leaving her feet, but not a full layout where she's sliding on her chest. (I don't blame her, I couldn't demonstrate it if she asked me too.) Short of a matress to dive on, not sure how to teach that. Might require the high motivation of a game for her to let instincts take over. I really wonder if diving isn't slightly overrated any way. Once you get older and all three outfielders can run pretty good, there aren't that many opportunities, and some of those opportunities are highly risky.

Diving practice is a blast! Long grass and soft ground make it more fun in the beginning.

Wanted to follow up and say I took iMlearning's advice and did some fence drills today w/ DD, and she enjoyed it and got something out of it. Really working to get her more comfortable with fences. It's part of the job as an outfielder. She's not bad with it, but a little timid when it's real chain-link fences. Getting better.

Find an older player that is a stud outfielder and tell her you will buy her a pizza lunch to take fly balls with your daughter and teach her to dive. They will think it is cool to teach someone their craft. My daughter learned to dive by playing with a girl that was really, really good at it. Sometimes peers are the best teachers...Although Ken B's video post above is excellent as well.
