A very bad call, but the game was a blowout. So, it didn't matter. However, the missed call in the 1985 world series was the worst of all time. It likely cost the Cards the World Series.

Even my non-athletic husband, knew that was a blown call.

It looked like Little League to me. From the awful base running to the awful umping, it was crazy.

Well....since it was the cards, it is forgivable. :D

at the end of each game, not only coaches talk to the press, but NOW the Blues do also. McClelland said during the Press Conf he THOUGHT Cano's foot was on the base, so didn't call him out and after reveiwing the replay (as they all do after each game now as a matter of process), he realized he blew the call.
**** He ALSO blew the call when he called Swisher out on the tag play from teh fly ball out to CF. Cost the Yankees a run AND an OUT with ANOTHER runner at 3B. Sooo, MAY have cost the Yankees MORE then that one run, BUT Yankee fans (like me) cannot complain being the HORRIBLE calls in the Yankees favor at 3B as you talk about AND the blown call at 2B when blue called Swisher SAFE on the pickoff attempt.
******** At least those 2 blown calls against the Angels did NOT cost them any runs.
--- Game 3 COST the Yankees at least ONE run if not more in the inning when Jeter wa SAFE at 1B and blue BLEW that call!

I was gonna say, at least he was looking at that one. He called Swisher out for leaving early when the replay clearly showed that he was watching the catch and never looked at Swisher to see if he left early or not. He just let the Angels make that call for him (incorrectly, although Swisher was indeed out at 2nd right before that play).

My question is, what the Heck was Cano thinking????

Swisher call at 3rd - I can live with, cause if he did score, it would have felt wrong, knowing he shouldn't even have been on base after the blown call at 2B.

Sometimes I wonder of in these games, do the Blues sometimes get distracted with everything going on? What in teh workd could be in his head to miss Swisher AND Cano/Posada call??

JOFUS13 - I assume he was concerned for 2 runners being on the base at the same time..... - otherwise ???? Why STAND there, why not start back pedaling or at LEAST reacting?

From Yahoo sports:

Yes, you read that right. The worst call of all time. Not just this postseason. Not this entire season. Not this decade. Not this century. I challenge you to think of one that was worse.

IMO, the Worst Call Ever wasn't even made by an umpire, but it did involve Tim McClelland. It was made by Lee McPhail when he overturned a ruling made by McClelland in 1983.

When I was young (many, many years ago), we were taught that if, as a runner, you advanced to a base to which another was retreating, you stayed on the base and give up a single out instead of two.

BTW, there is no ruling that puts a runner out for two runners on the base at the same time. They must be played upon and tagged by the defense or, if forced, the preceding runner is retired if the base to which he is forced is tagged with the ball or by a fielder in possession of the ball.
