I don't understand why a catcher would not get low. a freight train is barreling down on me, I want to get below their center of gravity!
as far as "Malicious Contact" goes, I have seen it happen to our 5'-0" HS catcher more than once and neither the coach nor umpires said anything about it. I'm talking 5'-10" runner going full bore with arms set in front of her at collision like a lineman, taking the player out. remaining on her feet the whole time.
