Catcher Pick Off - Bases Loaded

I love snap throws by catchers. However, everybody has to be on the same page. Catchers usually have a signal they use before they execute the play to make sure the infielders aren't surprised. The pitcher also should know so she can throw a pitch the catcher can handle to help the catcher...

    Dropball

Ouch! How did you get the bruise? Thumb pointed down when you were receiving the ball? Was it a drop ball pitch?

Single hinge vs. dual hinge mitts?

My daughter uses a Vinci fast pitch catchers mitt. Is that considered a dual hinge mitt?

    Dropball

How do your catchers setup for a drop ball? 1. Setup as low to the ground as possible? 2. Fingers up, heel of hand pointed to the ground to prevent thumb injuries? 3. Anticipate ball going into the dirt. Thoughts suggestions? My 11u daughter is having problems with the ball hitting the...

    Easton Mako Catching Gear? Reviews?

MAKO chest protector, according Easton's video, is setup for right handers. This is unfortunate because my daughter is a left hander. I hope Easton realizes that the paradigm is starting to change for left handed catchers and develops gear for left handed catchers as well. We'll probably be...

    Easton Mako Catching Gear? Reviews?

Looking to purchase new catching gear for my 11U daughter. She currently uses the Youth Easton catching gear. She liked the Easton set a lot and we are leaning towards the Easton Mako set. I am specifically worried about knee protection, heart and collar bone, most important a helmet that...

    New Vinci catchers mitt

I'll give the steam a try. The mitt came with conditioning oil and we applied to the mitt. However, Vinci does recommend that you not oil it again for two weeks. Vinci advises that over conditioning the mitt with cause damage to it.

    New Vinci catchers mitt

My daughter received her new Vinci catchers mitt yesterday. Any ideas on how to break it in? The stiffest catchers mitt we've owned.

    what's a good throwdown time for a 10u catcher?

I have a 10u lefty catcher. Pop to pop for a good catcher with proper footwork ( no extra steps to the base she's throwing at) proper ball transfer (rip it out not glove flip) and a proper throw ( grip, and elbow above her shoulder) a one hop, no rainbow throw. You're looking at anything below 3...

    protecting catcher's legs/knees

Obviously once you've perfected the basics of receiving, blocking center left and right, framing, pitch calling, footwork for throw downs to 1st 2nd and 3rd, mastered the proper grip and arm positioning for throws, and finally calling defenses then you can start making it more challenging by...

    protecting catcher's legs/knees

:cool:New to discussion fastpitch. Didn't realize it until I posted my opinion. However, there are a lot of views on this thread and if i can help a new catcher starting out, I'll post all day.

    protecting catcher's legs/knees

I would agree that catching 3-4 games a day is too much. My daughter is a 10U lefty catcher and would play a hundred games if I would allow it. I told her head coach that it is a must to be three deep in that position because of the wear and tear. To protect my daughters body, we have her in...

Should you teach young catchers to throw from the knees?

My daughter is a 10u lefty blessed with a cannon for an arm. Her throw-down to second from pop-pop is 2.2-2.45 seconds. We are currently working on the knee throw. Jen Schro is who we are currently learning this technique from. The one warning she does have is, never let your elbow drop below...
