14U ASA/USA nationals in Normal, IL

Great meeting and talking to you this weekend. You should not be surprised at college coaches asking about your DD, she is a great player offensely and defencesly. As a 99 team, I did not know what to expect. They went 5-2 and finished tied for 13th. Oh, by the way, thanks for putting us out...

    Think Positive

While in Normal, Il for the 14u ASA Nationals, the local newspaper was very nice to me and my family and wrote an article about us. The newspaper had contacted the coach about any human interest story he may have and he told them about me. I debated about posting this but if it inspires just one...

    Very excited for DD

This should be a lesson for all young ladies who love the game of softball. Always be respectful, give 100% all the time because you never know who is looking and for what reason and take every opportunity that you think is best. Congratulations, I know she will do great!

I agree with you 100%,but imo, they should not reverse the call after the play either. Again, I agree. This was 14u, that transition year where most fielders are not quite there yet. I'm just the glad play really did not affect the game either way!

    Interference

Thank you MTR for expressing what I did not. After 8 days at nationals for us old men, we kind of get tired and lose any train of thought. When the umpires conferenced after the play, the 1st base umpire said he saw the runner make contact with the runner. Why didn't the 3rd base ump have a...

Understand the rule all I am asking can you appeal the play where there was no call made except runners safe.

I understand judgement but is it an appealable play?

    Interference

OK, so we are 14u ASA nationals and a similar play happened. Runner on 2nd, ball hit to ss Runner jumps over ball ss makes error all runners safe. No call is made by umps. 3 man umpiring crew in correct position. Before next pitch, other coach makes protest. Umps conference, 1st base ump says...

    Almost in Tears!

As some of you know I had a brain tumor removed on 6-28-13. As I told the surgeon I had to be out of the hospital by Friday as I had a softball tournament I had to go to see. Well he said it would be the next week, then 3 or 4 days of home health care and then some therapy. Well, I went home...

“Who is your Daddy, and what does he do?”

Retired, which means DGDs get anything they want. :) Good news, the 8yo just started playing softball, that will extend my softball junkie side for a while longer. Yea!!!

Favorite Pics of DGD This year

Yea, DGD does the same thing, although she has not thrown anyone out stealing 2nd yet. Most of the teams around here know her and do not offer to steal often. I had a parent tell me as they get older they (?) don't like that. Heck, get the out and they don't care how you throw it. She practices...

Favorite Pics of DGD This year

Love it like you do when hard work and love of the game shows up. DGDs team played up to 16u this past week end in preparation for Nationals in Il and they showed up well. They won the tournament and the scores were not too close. The only game they lost was 3-0 to an 18u team in pool play. Of...

Favorite Pics of DGD This year

DGD's team had a professional photographer take pics at a recent tournament for two days. This is a part-time job (hobby) for him but he does good work. Here are a few of my favorites. Team Poster Reflection of team in DGD's sun glasses. Throwing from knees on pickoff at 2nd base. She has...

    Posting Team Stats

Personally, I like to see my DGD's stats after each tournament. Her team uses gamechanger and I have a sign on and can see all the player stats, but I only look at her stats. I know the coaches look at all the stats and make certain decisions based on them. That is their job, so let them do it...

Still no dads, to catch these girls.

My DGD's catching instructor is also a good pitching instructor. Anytime he needs a catcher, he just gives her a call. She has caught from D1 pitchers, to 8U pitchers and she loves every moment of it. She loves helping out and will "correct" some of the younger pitchers before the instructor has...

How to Start and End A Week

Well, last weekend my DGD's 14u team competed in the ASA state championship and won. And thanks to God I was there to watch the whole tournament. Tomorrow, they will compete in the NSA state tournament and thanks to God I will be able to watch it also. During the tournament last week, I was just...

    OT: Talented 14 year old

The young lady is definitely really talented, but can she hit a 60 mph softball? Now that is real talent!:)

Taking High School Sophomore Season Off vs. Recruitment

There are a lot of great insights on this situation, all of them neither right or wrong. The correct answer is to make sure your DD knows all the pros and cons and let her make her decision. I want to say kudos to the HS softball coach that named her no 2 catcher and not the no 1 just because...

critical parents and the smack talking

Just once, just once mind you, I would like a young lady who is being verbally abused by a fan to call time out, walk off the playing field over the offender, hand them her glove and tell them sounds like you can do better, so go do it and then sit down. Oh how embarrassed the offender would be...
