    Pitcher wanting tournament play

Is there any team in Iowa, planning to play tournaments this summer and needing a solid pitcher? Our daughter is 14U, loves to play, and wants to do tournaments. Our town used to put a tournament team together, but as players get older, with other interests, they no longer are doing it. Would...

    Pitcher wanting to play tournaments

We live in north Central Iowa and my 14U daughter would love the opportunity to join a team that plans to play in tournaments this summer. She's a solid pitcher. Is there anywhere on this board where we can post this type of thing? Or does anyone know of web sites where opportunities for Iowa...

    Shoulder pain

Thank you all for the great tips. I called our local PT today and he got us in right away. He provides one free consultation for school athletes, no matter what grade! I was amazed at what I was seeing with him as he looked at her. For one thing - there were a lot of balance issues between her...

    Shoulder pain

I think you might have wanted to know if she stretches, and sadly, pitching coach hasn't ever pushed that - I think we need to be doing that. And we need to know what stretches to do.

    Shoulder pain

She has a 15-20 minute warm up routine with pitching, and she said her warm up drills didn't hurt her arm, just when she started going with full rotation.

    Shoulder pain

Daughter just turned 13 and has been pitching for a few years now. Throws in mid-50s. Usually throws about 45 mins, twice a week in off-season. She started having pain recently in the front part of her shoulder. Said when she rotates it feels like a cracking feeling in the front. I asked her how...

    How much is too much

In the fall in the Midwest - we play ball in temps anywhere from 45 to 80 degrees. My daughter pitched two games, several hours apart the other day, and may be asked to do the same in coming weeks. Are we wrong to allow two games a day for a 12-13-year-old pitcher, who usually faces 3-5 batters...

    Coaching question

I appreciate all the comments here. We're in Iowa, Hillhouse.

    Coaching question

Due to money constraints, let me pose this question: I have a 13-year-old who has been instructed well to this point. Good mechanics, nice fastball, nice change, good speed ... but money is tight. Does anyone here feel that it is possible to develop a good pitcher without professional...

    Good or bad?

Someone recently said to me - your daughter is so strong, she should be out for track and throwing the shot put. It will even make her a stronger pitcher. And it made me wonder, is throwing the shot good or bad for a pitcher? I'm curious now.

    Pitching Speed

This board is not only very informative, but also very entertaining! Loved this thread!

    Learned a lesson

    Yes, it appears that way.

    Learned a lesson

My daughter was signed up for two afternoon pitching camp sessions, both yesterday and today. The first day, her pitching went great; and she was on her game totally! I found out they would still take more kids in the morning hitting camp on the second day, so I decided that would be good for...

    Playing up?

We're in the Midwest -Iowa/Illinois area, and this is a tournament traveling team, that is put together by an area association.

    Playing up?

Wow, I'm really enjoying the discussions on this board - especially the one about height. So here's a discussion question. My daughter just turned 12 last week, and she qualifies for the coming year as a U12 player/pitcher. Because of the lack of strong pitchers at the older level, we have been...

    Ideal height for pitchers?

Peppers - you give me hope. I think my daughter is going to top out around 5'5" at most. But she is strong, very strong and very committed. This post had me fearing at first that maybe we should give it all up, but I think it's clear that there's more to pitching well than being tall. Thanks for...

    Ideal height for pitchers?

I was a good high school pitcher at 5 foot 2 inches, but I keep hoping my daughter will edge up a little higher. She's already passed me and is 5'4" at just turning 12. However, God gave her my arm and strength, and the ability to throw consistently and not be bothered by difficult game...

    Just curious

Chris, she's an excellent server - probably the best on the team, but she's just so-so with the rest of it! Do you think that comes from the strength that she has as a pitcher?

Fun drill for softball hitting vision training

This sounds really neat Ken. Do the girls continue to stand sideways, as if they are batting? Or do they face the people throwing the balls?

    Just curious

My daughter displays great confidence when she's on the mound in a softball game, but she also wanted to play volleyball and in volleyball, she just isn't aggressive and doesn't seem to fit in with the other players. Are any of your "little pitchers" geared to being a one-sport athlete? I'm...
