    Recruiting Advice

Guest for a team in Florida at one of the bigger showcases. Contact schools ahead of tournament.

USSSA World Series/Road to Orlando to move in a couple of years

My DD's team played in Seminole in May on the turf. Some of the girls molded cleats were coming apart. They held a tournament there last week and didn't play games between 2pm and 4pm. Not the best idea to put a turf field in Florida. I heard the temps were around 115 on the fields in heat...

    ASA A Nationals Anyone?

My DD will be playing in Bloomington next week. I am not sure if I am going to make it :(

Tournament during NCAA 'dead' period - D1 can't be there, right?

I was at a showcase this weekend. D1 coaches all around. Not sure about the blackout dates. Maybe it is just during the WCWS???

GOLD/A/B/C Why do we have it?

Gold- Used to be if you were classed Gold, you weren't allowed to play any tournament but ASA Gold. Original intent to have only top tier 18U, now 16U teams that are primarily filled with DI players A- High level travel team that draws players from a wide area B- Travel team that draws players...

This was a first for DD......

Sounds like she is a competitive pitcher. Good work. It's funny in softball this is frowned upon. It happens but you don't hear abut "unwritten rules" like baseball. This past weekend a mom was picking signs from the coach calling pitches for my DD. Every time her daughter came to the plate...

DD struggling to get palm up.

I have pitchers go "knuckles up" in their upswing. I also remind them to show the catcher the ball at the top. It seems to help them stay palm up later through the pitch.

    Rise ball release?

I consider myself a pretty good teacher and can also throw the pitches. I am no BH, but I throw a heck of a batting practice. First, I don't think the fingers ever actually come up the front of the ball. I have tried a million times and all I get is a very slow change up type pitch. I do...

    Oh no!

My DD was asked as a 13 YOA player to play for her LL All Star team. They played Senior League. Went all the way to Regional finals. Missed the World Series by 1 game. She enjoyed the run they made. Newspaper coverage and playing with friends she started with. About 2/3's of the girls were...

Reaching out to DFP family for help

I have been with DFP for a long time. I have tried to stay involved when work permitted. I feel like I have learned many lessons as both a parent and a coach. I need help as a parent once again. It is about my DD's HS team. So here I go. My DD is a sophomore P. She is the starter and the...

How long have you coached ?

I started as a bat boy right out of the play pen in the early 70's. Progressed to score keeper, 1st base coach, asst. coach all the way through HS. Moved to Fla in '91, continued coaching with my Pop. We coached travel ball and HS before I even had kids of my own. Here are some changes I...

    UCLA's youngest commit ever

A fully funded DI school has 12 scholarships to give every year. They can be split any way they see fit. Look at some of the bigger DI rosters online. They have 20 kids. Do the math. If the top 5 kids get 100%, that leaves 7 scholarships for the other 15 players. DII has 7 to give. When...

How can a player commit to a school that is not allowed to contact her?

A coach can talk to a player on campus. So if the camp is at their school, they can discuss anything. If they are simply working a camp off site, they are not able to talk about their specific school. Honestly, most verbals are initiated through the travel coach. College coaches can talk to...

    Dropball Trouble

I certainly am not a technical expert by any means. When my DD was growing, the drop was her best pitch. She would hit a growth spurt and suddenly throw a little harder. When that would happen, her drop would "flatten" out. We would focus for a couple weeks on adding additional spin...

Unofficial visit an excused absence from school?

cough cough, I think she is coming down with something. As her parent you should keep her home for everyone's safety.

    Go Pro 3+ Silver...What am I missing?

Josh- I am still playing around with the camera. I will try your tips and see if I can improve. The camera seems to get good reviews on this site. I am sure it is a code ID10T issue. Sadly, I feel like I know a little about computers and cameras. I hope a little time using it will improve me.

    Go Pro 3+ Silver...What am I missing?

Got this as a gift for Christmas. I see them at lots of tournaments. I tried using it a couple times now. Tried filming a practice and a game at a recent tournament. I have the mounting bracket and have downloaded the app to my phone. The video is very far away. It is crystal clear on the...

I suspect organization of stealing player funds

If I ran an organization, that had multiple teams, it would belong to the organization. Sounds like at the beginning of the season, the organization came up with a budget that needed to be met. They broke it down into monthly fees to make it easier for the players families. The org probably...
