Seeking advice: If your DD is not going to be tall - a novel I know, sorry ;-)

I agree wholeheartedly with the other comments about the reasons your daughter should pick a college. Regarding pitching and height - last year we went and watched the University of the Pacific play Long Beach State, both small schools but I think this still emphasizes the point. The Long...

Looking for Advice: DD doesn't want to play HS ball

My family has just gone through a similar situation. Both of my daughters played this last TB season 16u nationals in TN. They both decided this was going to be their last hurrah and decided against playing for the high school coach. The team has done quite well winning their division the last...

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

Hmm.. Never said we didn't go after the batters. Quite the opposite actually. Just wanted to get the groups thoughts on this tactic as a way to set the tone of the at bat. Not sure I'd consider it a bush league tactic but I guess we all have our opinions.

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

Yeah they do have good control but nobody is perfect. Should have clarified a bit more in my original post also - This wasn't something we did every inning or even every game. Really depended on the team we were facing, situation, batter, etc... I might not have done this against a weaker...

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

High and tight is good also but if they did miss their spot could get hit or end up drilling the girl and putting her on.

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

You must have been at some of our games. We did up through 14u. Didn't think 16's would be too phased by it.

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

Good point. Should have said way out of the zone instead of "wild".

How do you feel about intentional wild pitches

I'd love to get the groups thoughts on this. My last pitching rotation (3 girls) pitched in the 54-58 speed range. We weren't an over powering group but all had great control. Something I often did was call an intentional wild pitch. My pitcher would throw a fast ball high and away, sometimes...

Why is it important to know how fast your DD pitches?

My daughter is playing 16u's and consistently hits 56/57 but has tons of movement. By no means is she the fastest pitcher most hitters will see but come game time she very rarely throws a fastball anyway. It's all about movement, keeping them off balance and hitting her spots.

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

Absolutely right. As long as the bat just "feels right" there are generally comfortable with it. By the way, we're going to keep the CF3 just in case... Thanks!

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

Amy - thanks for the comment. We're thinking of trying out a -9 to see how that feels. Really doubt a -8 is in her futrue.

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

I could be wrong but I don't think that's the situation. She's been going to the same hitting instructor for the last 2 years and has steadily increased in power. I think he just wants a little more pop.

Managers - Where do you stand when your Team is up to bat?

I coach third but after getting drilled in the leg a couple of months ago I seriously think I should be in the dugout.

    Time off/playing year round?

For the last couple of years, we shut it down the week before Thanksgiving and don't start back at it until January. By the time we get back at it they are ready to go.

    Pitching To Your Strengths

GM - totally agree with this. My daughter threw her first no hitter this past weekend. She struck out 11 and walked 2. I asked her after the game what she felt was different about this game and she said "I threw a lot of strikes and just wanted to get everyone out". She's been pitching for about...

    14U pregnant player

We just played in a 16u tourney this past weekend and found out after the fact that the opposing catcher was pregnant. A couple girls from my team over heard her in the bathroom after the game. We saw them the next day, Sunday, and they had her in right field. A parent from my team asked who we...

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

The HS coaches are talking about batting her 5th and want her to have a little more pop. The timing is good because she's had her CF3 for about 2 years so we are getting a new bat anyway.

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

Appreciate the response. She, like most girls who play the game, is REALLY particular about her bat. Her confidence level is high at the plate. The last thing I want to do is wreck that. I did read in another thread here (I think) about doing a lot of tee work to get use to a new bat. We do a...

    Drop 8 versus Drop 9

My oldest daughter is 5'3", weighs 125 and is very strong. We've done conditioning and weight training since she was 13 (now 15). She's hitting very well; bats 3rd in the line up on our TB team. Her high school coach mentioned to her that he'd like to see her using a drop 8. Right now she swings...

Ok, i need help once again

I'd also suggest being sure you have a team manager that can schedule / pay for the tournaments, collect fees, and keep everything organized. Starting a new team you are going to have a lot of things on your plate. Having that manager that you can count on will give you the ability to focus on...
