Thanks. We are in southern Montgomery County, and the closer the better I suppose. Collegeville is pretty far for us, but I'm getting the sense that there aren't a whole lot of great options around.
My DD has a private hitting instructor who does not use video. I tape her at home and look at slo-mo to figure out what issues she is having and to show her what she is doing, which I find extremely helpful. Hitting coach does not use and therefore I feel does not have a true understanding...
Of note, Jarden Corp (which owns Worth and Rawlings) is in the process of merging with Newell Rubbermaid. Per the Wall Street Journal today, "Now executives at the newly formed Newell Brands will get to work cutting costs and possibly pruning some of the dozens of well-known brands".
Thanks and I agree that it is best not to mess around with it a whole lot. Most importantly, I want her thinking about just hitting the ball during the game, and not making changes to her swing. I'm going to focus on making sure her feet and hands are in the proper position at set-up...
Thanks Shawn. I'm okay with her leaving a little on the table in terms of power by not having full negative move at this age, if it helps her maintain a more consistent swing but I see what you are saying. We will work on refining that as she develops. I do want to focus on not leaning back...
She has been taught to have hands at ear level and load at setup (rather than during pitch) by HC. I guess the thought is that it keeps the swing simpler/quicker at this age. Seem like hands behind back foot is caused by too much load, or is it more hand position.
Thanks. I think she does tend to stand a bit outside, and we try to remind her of what you just said. Agree with SoGa as well that tee is set up a bit too far in front.
I've read/heard some conflicting views on this. Is HE a completely different style of pitching, or is it the difference between a fast ball (which is not commonly thrown at the college level) and other types of pitches? My DD is just starting to pitch (as an 8 YO) so just learning about this...
Here you go - any thoughts are appreciated. If someone knows how to embed the video in post, that would be helpful. One specific question - how is her setup relative to the ball? Sometimes I think she stands a bit too far from the plate, causing her to hit toward the end of the bat. What is...
I completely agree with that, both in terms of parents not coaching from the stands as well as parents not complaining about the coaches. It's a lot easier now that she is on a select team rather than a rec team, because the quality of coaching is much higher (and I'm not one of the coaches)...
I think it is human nature to want to continue to be better than the person before you, and that's why Softball, and every other sport, continues to evolve and the quality of play continues to improve. So, the "price of admission", if you will, to play at a high level has gone up and will...
I literally just saw an 8YO (who was batting) hit herself in the face with a ball she fouled straight back. Don't think I've ever seen that before - fortunately she had a mask on. But why do girls wear them in FP, but they don't use them in baseball? Is there a good reason, or is it just...
One drill I have seen work is to set tee as low as possible and put a basketball/soccer ball on the tee and have them hit it. They will be forced to swing hard to hit such a heavy ball. that at least gives them the feel of swinging hard.
So here's a question. My daughter is 8 YO and has been learning to pitch over the past 6 months or so. She is at the point where she can consistently pitch from 35 feet and, more often than not, throws strikes with good velocity (for an 8 YO). People are generally surprised to see someone...
Yes, I think that is exactly the case. A donor wanted, for example, to improve the baseball (or football) stadium and that is allegedly not permissible if the softball stadium is not brought up to the same level. But I think private donors typically want to improve a specific facility, not...
