    Utilizing slappers

So DD is in her 3rd yr of lefty slapping ( 13 yo). Weve Been seeing a great slapping only coach for the last 6 months and her game has really opened up. Proficient in hitting away, drag, soft, hard, and chopper. They are using wristbands but there is nothing set up for the slappers on the...

    Sliding: Any videos? Clips?

I would add the hook slide to your arsenal. I've found that hook sliding not only help them miss the tag but it keeps the body rolling over so one area is not taking all the abuse during the slide. It seems the really help timid sliders get over their fear.

    To jump teams or not?

Been in your shoes. If your DD feels like her skills are above her current teams level you need to move. she will not work hard enough to get to the next level if she's not being challenged by her teammates. Great 10u players with no work ethic become average 12u players then below average...

    Fun games for 10U practices

Some skill competition games can be tough at that age. I always did knockout games with hitting at the end of practice. You get one pitch and have to take a ball or hit it in fair territory to stay in. Take a strike, foul, whiff, etc. You are out for that round. Goes quick at 10u. Works...

    Why go lefty?

I don't think its worth it if she's not willing to put the work in. It would probably increase her BA and Obp as others have said. DD changed over at 11 and is 13 now and still has to work at it to be successful. Another question is are you willing to pay for a weekly hitting lesson? there's...

    She just quits...

We have battled this same issue for years. I coached 2 years in 10u and 1 year of 11u and did a lot of mental damage to my DD with unrealistic expectations. Especially when she was pitching. We moved to a travel team in 2013 and I have tried to completely back away during games. she has done...

First practice with our new team last night

Challenging them is very important. You will find everyone wants the bigger girls at 8u,10u, some 11u and they don't have to work very hard to hit well and throw hard. Then all of the sudden in 12u the smaller players who have had to work hard show up and they have developed work ethic and can...

    Higher level fundraising

DD's 13u team Heading to some national events in 2016. Looking for some successful fundraising ideas to put together. We already do night at the races, raffles, etc and those are ok to offset the the usual season costs. I'm looking for larger event ideas in the 3-5k range. Thanks.

    Stale practices

Yea. I pretty much agree with this. At this point you got what you got. Our defense is solid and above average. I think some of the infielders, dd included that have a little more range than they realize. What do you do in practice to get them To commit to that one more step and dive? Not...

    Stale practices

Dd plays on a competitive 12u A team. Over the last few months - practices have become weak and it seems they work on the same old stuff and not activities which have been problems in games. What should I be seeing them work on. I'd like to make suggestions to the coach ( we're to that...

    10U Rec Parents...

It's 10u rec. IF you have a pitcher that can get it over the plate and field and a girl that can catch at first you got it made. If your pitcher has a change up everyone else can sit in the dugout. My experience is cut out the cancer as quick as you can or it spreads. I've also learned the...

Right. Bullet point 10 same column clarifies.

OH middle school no contact rule

do middle school softball teams / players fall under the OHSAA no contact with travel teams during the season rules? A few girls on dd's 12 u team have joined a start up MS team. As I read the rules they do. they are playing/ practicing both at one time and intend to continue. My concern is...

Turning your Daughter around at the plate.

DD turned around a little over a year ago. She's very athletic and that helped her find some success. Drag bunting and slapping were fairly easy to become proficient at but power slapping and hitting away pretty much took a year of weekly hitting lessons. i think it depends on what you want...

    Up against a wall

Well, interesting question. It seems our little town had this same issue with girls basketball a few years ago. Enough aau basketball parents got together that they brought back a retired teacher to return the program to its former glory. Essentially a generation later. I wouldn't think I...

    Up against a wall

No. Both gyms were occupied at the time. But there are options at other buildings. Practice later, communicate, classroom, Pat Summit mental imagery ( which works but that's another topic)

    Up against a wall

I have no idea. Keep 20 kids busy until they catch pneumonia? I dread the thought of dd playing for her HS team if this chick is the coach. Do I approach the AD as time gets closer ? Are official HS stats that important for recruiting?

    Up against a wall

So I've heard nothing but negativity about the local hs coach we will have to deal with in two years. I'm picking up DD today from ms track practice and this is going on. Whole team outside in a cold rain fake swinging against a wall. All their equipment getting rained on, girls soaked, you...

    No Pitching ?

So true. We spent so much time pitching and going to lessons there was no time for hitting lessons or hitting practice. Big hurdle when we moved to TB and decided to stop pitching.
