Watched a college game this wkend where the flex player pinched run for another starter in the lineup that wasn't the dp!
Is this possible in the college game?

Anything is possible. :p

Honestly, I've given up (as a non-coach) trying to understand the rules on substitutions and flex and such.

Not according to their rules. The flex may only be on offense in the DP position.

Is it possible that player was the DP but had entered the game on defense for another player and was incorrectly listed? I've seen that happen before and whoever is in charge of the broadcast or scoreboard thinks that the player the DP entered for swaps places and becomes the new DP. Or they just messed up the rule lol.

In the past when something similar happened and I tried to figure it out my conclusion was the broadcasters had the lineup wrong- if the DP had started the game in the field (which is allowed) then what happened was possible. So I figured maybe the broadcasters had incorrectly assumed the player in the batting order who was not on the field in the first inning was the DP.
