Here's a video that helps explain why at least part of the reason AJ is having a successful year.

If your interested in HLP it's a good video that will help, if you not, then don't bother.

I finely agree 100 percent with the first 1:30 of this video. My DD hits her best when she loads balanced and slow. Never rushed. OK let me watch the rest of it. OK watched it. I prefer a slow controlled fall forward (no stomping) but not a reach with foot foot and leaning back. I want the nose and the belly button to move out almost together. If the head lags behind a little its ok especially for a power hitter. It helps create a higher launch angle. You surely do not want the nose to get ahead of the belly button. Lunge and stomp is not a good look.

I like to look at Bo Bichette and Vladdy when thinking about HLP. Both young hitters, hit for power and avg to all fields, came up through the same org and roughly the same age. However IMO, In general I believe Bo follows the AJ template more than Vladdy. Bo does let the ball travel more, focusses on getting the barrel on plane very deep and early. Vladdy's bat path is more steep and generates a lot of back spin. Both are successful. but I don't think they do it exactly the same way. Also Vladdy has been hitting a ton of ground balls hard this year, just beating it into the ground. Maybe if he adjusted his barrel path we would see more balls in the alley and OTF

Or maybe you would see more Ks like Bo? Extra 30-40-50 a year or so? Less walks like Bo also? Who knows. It did help AJ to see it deeper. Maybe Bo needs the same crutch? So far vlad Jr. is the superior hitter, right?

I Just like when things are crystal clear. He did mention that he would like to see Vlad swing up more so he could get a few more XBHs. Isn’t that enough? Even though Bo doesn’t have more XBHs than vlad, so I don’t see any correlation to swinging up and XBHs. The only correlation everyone has come up w is more Ks. Like I mentioned. Anyways.. potstirrer!! 😆😆

You would agree Vladdy had a better year last year than he has had this year, (right ?) and then compare his LA averages that I posted to speak to @julray ’s point..🤷🏽‍♂️

Like I said.. then he might be looking at more Ks. It’s a timing thing. Hard hit balls are the goal right? Gotta get them in the air? That’s how holes/slumps start.

It’s fine line I agree and LA obviously doesn’t tell the whole story but when it is cut in half that probably means something..maybe they are throwing him up in the zone more 🤷🏽‍♂️
