DD has her first unofficial visit at D1 program in few weeks. Just trying to get a grasp on how things work.
Is it a "mass" unofficial for a football game or something where they bring in a bunch of recruits or is this one specifically set up with your DD?

From what we were told, it will only be my DD. I will keep everyone posted on how things go.

For D3. there are only unofficial visits, and some are your DD alone, or it may be a group "unofficial" with a few other recruits. You may be offered at an unofficial, or it may be a simple "show and tell" about the program. Since lots of coaches prefer to make their offers one on one rather than in writing, you should always ask any hard questions you have at the unofficial.
For NESCACs, Ivies, and other "high academic" D3s there is NO athletic scholarship money, and aid is usually just based on need. A few of the less renowned "high academics" offer merit aid. So the offer is only for help getting thru admissions as well as a spot playing on the team. With acceptance rates under 15% at most of these schools, ability to play softball can be a strong factor in getting accepted. Coaches are allowed to support a limited number of recruits who have test scores and grades that are consistent with the average of the student body, and those recruits will be accepted if they apply ED or EA.
