It is illegal and pitchers have been doing this for a long time. I still question whether it is a competitive advantage when done in the way the video shows. When you take the giant leap and replant like the men do that is another thing entirely.

What about an advantage that isn’t competitive? Is it illegal then?

That’s kinda like the pitchers who leap and the not so good pitchers who lose contact because of poor use of the body usage/mechanics. The poor pitcher wasn’t gaining an advantage. They just loss contact.

Of course, now it’s legal to lose contact.

People only complain about bad calls, rules being broken, etc when they are being negatively effected by it. In my 40+ years of watching diamond sports I’ve yet to see a person whine about the umpire when a call goes for their team..”Good gracious Maud, that pitch to our little pride and joy was better than grits on my birthday. Hey Blue, that pitch to Susie Q was a strike. I hope you get that right next time and ring her up faster than I can skin a rattlesnake..”

You went full-on country boy with that comment. Oklahoma is rubbing off on you.

Breaking the rules to get a competitive advantage is cheating, and cheating is bad. Whether "the men do this already" or not is irrelevant, and men's fast pitch should hardly be the standard for multitudes of reasons.

Umpires not cracking down on cheating for whatever reason (incompetence, laziness, not wanting to slow the game down) simply hurts the integrity of the game, whether it's the likely outcome or not.
