Ironic. I read somewhere that Ally Shipman transferred to Alabama to catch for Fouts and to go to OKC.

Kilfoyl
Goodnight
Doerr
Lord
Bloodworth

Also Storako from Mi

Hearing rumors about players that are stepping away from the game that I never saw coming. (Not transferring.)

This is going to be a wild off season, put on your seatbelts y’all.

Shipman is staying for one more year. She is a much better hitter than Doerr. Maybe Doerr would like the opportunity to play more?

Bloodworth and Goodnight appear, at least according to Instagram, to be pretty good friends. Could maybe be one wanting to leave and her bff deciding to transfer along with her?

Obviously, this is all speculation. However, Shipman staying another year makes sense for Doerr to transfer.

You will see more of this since money is now involved. Coaching will have to change as well due to the portal. This is the tip of the iceberg. Players can now get together and create their own teams. Some mid-major that might have an opening could, in theory, and with some money due to location, become powers for a brief time if they take on 4 or 5 from the portal that have an agenda together.
Explain how, please.

Sunday my BIL that graduated from Bama came over for dinner. He said what's the score of the Bama game? I told them they out bro. He then says that coach has gotta go! That right there is the mentality of the Bama fan. They are used to winning and if they are not, get rid of the coach! But that is becoming a popular opinion across the land.

I think that some "old school coaches" will have to evaluate how they do things and make some changes. I'll use myself as an example. I coached HS ball at a school that was terrible in softball. We produced a winning record this year. I was 180 degrees the opposite of their former coach. I am as "old school" as you can get. I didn't allow players to skip practice, leave practice early when they wanted to, ... I didn't and don't say "please" when I need/want something done. At the banquet, many of the parents had finally come over to "my side" and appreciated all of my efforts. Still, some of those other parents were vigorously opposed to me coming back. In looking at their dds, I can understand why. The portal will now allow those who don't get things their way or who are pushed to be better and made to feel uncomfortable, to have a way out. This is just my opinion. My opinion and roughly $8 will get you an extra value meal from Mcdonald's.

Softball players always have been able to transfer without sitting out. Or at least, in softball, teams have routinely granted releases, allowing immediate eligibility for transfers.

So what's different about the transfer portal? Is it that it allows you to advertise that you're on the market to be recruited with the option of returning to your old team? Whereas before, you had to leave your old team first, totally burning the bridge, before being recruited elsewhere? That along with the example of football players, certainly could set off the trend.

As for how it affects coaching, I know that in football, if players can transfer without penalty, then the coach often will be in a dilemma of deciding (1) start this guy now, even though he's not the best player, so that you'll still have him in 3 years when he could be an All-American or (2) play the better player now, who is a senior and won't be back next year. Without the transfer portal, that future All-American might stick it out and you get both players.

Once you put your name in the transfer portal the odds of the coach welcoming you back with open arms are pretty slim...doesn't mean if you are top 3 or 4 players on the team you won't play but if you performance drops off in the slightest or they can recruit or transfer in someone of equal maybe even just slightly less ability that you won't find yourself without a spot or a scholarship. Now if the coach is fired you might get a second chance but it's still hard because you have announced to the world "I don't want to play here"

On a side note, Montana Fouts is putting up a strong message she is playing in her extra year and staying put in Alabama. Two ways to look at it, if she wants to compete for a championship it is the absolute wrong decision on her part because the program is going to be a shell of what it was for the time being
As long as Fouts is there, Alabama will be in the top 10.
