I can't stress this enough!!!

Parents of young ball players.... teach your children to catch fly balls and hit cutoffs at an early age. There will always be a spot for you if you can hit.

Have them hit wiffles off a T daily if they are bored. Make a point to go to their home field when you know there are no games or practices and take some grounders, fly balls and, if they are a pitcher, throw from the rubber. Ask her how her friends are and how they are doing in school. Ask her how her day was and if anyone pissed her off today (younger ages - please don't ask that). Ask her if she is looking forward to practice.

Hey, good coaches recognize hard work and talent. Just have her keep working hard and good things will happen. Keep grinding it out against the best competition you can find.

This is my son's first go around with travel ball and he was pumped when he got the srart in right field in game 1 of a recent tournament. A kid tryed to tag on a fly to right in the top of the 1st and he hosed the kid at home by five feet. It set the tone for the whole tourney.

Me thinks Momo'sDad needs to send Momo'sMom a link to the DFP forum for some reading pleasure and edification. If that healthy dose of reality doesn't do the trick for Momo'sMom, then she will need to join the HeyBucket.com forum and solicit advice there!

She's 8 and she was voted to the 10u All-Star team, where some players have already turned 11.

I almost passed out laughing when I got to that part.

Your wife needs to relax, if she continues on as true as the picture you have painted your daughter will never have a chance to play on a decent team. No good team wants parents like her around, at least I dont. Shes got alot of softball left, dont ruin it for her now.

For the sake of your childs mental health (and your marriage) keep your kid in rec ball. Moving her to travel ball will magnify the pressures and tension of competing against her teammates for playing time.

And seriously, Mike is right. No matter how good DD is, no one wants a parent like her around. My DD's coach has turned away 3 very good players because of the baggage they come with.

I passed on a really could pitcher this year because the mom is a crazy parent. There is another really good player in town who I've coached before; she is one of my favorite players to coach. She has a great attitude and she can hit like crazy. I have to pass on her every year because of her dad. After awhile the word gets around about these kid's parents and before you know it the poor kids have trouble finding a good team to play on.

Usually the parents that do the most complaining are the ones that have never coached. They have no clue what goes into a coach's thought process when setting positions or doing a batting order. Also, coaches need time to get comfortable with a player's skill level in game situations. We need time to figure out where a player can best fit the needs of the team.

I know a great 12 yo SS, that cannot make a travel team, due to her mom. She makes a scene at every event, that the child is in.

Greenmonsters, good point. She's definitely more Heybucket than DFP, though. I like having fun, but also take learning about the game very seriously. Here I am able to learn much more here about the sport and what to expect as we move forward as a softball family. She loves softball, but only knows a few of the rules, so her enjoyment of the game comes down to 2 things: 1) team winning and 2) DD being the star. We're a REC softball family and for me, it's about all the girls learning the game, learning to be good teammates, and having fun and hopefully some success in the process.
