Can somebody post a game swing of Jessica Mendoza so we can compare?

This is not just a batting practice swing -- it is a pre-game batting practice. IOW, the Olympic team is getting ready to play a game so it is doubtful she is goofing around.

The reason I think a healthy discussion of Mendoza is relevant is because she is one of the best female hitters in the world (besides Bustos) and Mendoza may be more representative physically (height and weight -- not strength) of some of our daughters.

I would suggest the swing is not always in the "shoulder plane." One of the shortcomings of the Englishbey/PCR system is the emphasis on shoulder pulled swings, particularly the active use of the lead arm/lead shoulder connection. PCR'ers bend forward/tilt at the waist to set swing plane in the momentum path of the shoulders.

The hands and arms go where they must to get square contact. The ML swing I see is not a shoulder pulled swing, with the lead arm/shoulder pulling, pulling, pulling - which equals drag, IMO, and not something seen in ML swings.

A very smart swing expert who has studied golf and bb/fp is Kevin G, formerly "tweenarock" at the basebal-fever website.

He has a very valuable and fresh perspective on things like "swinging in the shoulder plane"/etc

And he poopoos handle torque which some here will like.

Try a search on his posts at BBF for some thought provoking insights.

The Mendoza rightview clips may be better.

this is BP/short front toss.

Wellfyt's comments are good, BUT she may use lower body with different synch at live speed.

Note to those without an agenda. There is so much wrong with this sentence it's difficult to know where to start.

Mark, I understand that you believe that EH's material is being misrepresented. I'm just confused why people who believe it's being misrepresented don't make a greater effort to clear things up for those of us who are interested in learning about some of the other approaches that are out there.

Something just seems really strange. A few days ago I make a general comment about some differences that I see between Ted Williams swing and SE's (one-handed) swing on his website, and I get IMO some serious over- reaction from some that are familar with his material (you not being one of them). I basically get accused of misrepresenting what and how he teaches, along with a bunch of other nutty stuff.

It's just really strange that the people who use his material won't provide more detail as to what he teaches. It's almost as if the people who own his material have been directed not to publically reference his material. Pretty much what I hear is "you're wrong, that's not what EH teaches, go to his website or give him a call and find out what he teaches" I've been to his website, and doing that actually raised some red flags.

What I HAVE, learned, is that my apparent understanding of the load and unload process is wrong. Wonderful, terrific, super duper...I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something. However, now I'm curious as to why I'm wrong. I really am. If there is an issue with making information available to those who haven't purchased the EH material, I understand, I'm fine with that. But would it be possible for someone who has used the PCR approach to answer a simple more general question:

Would Ted Williams agree with the PCR approach to the load and unload process?

I love the anonymity of the internet ;)

I have Steve's DVDs and have talked to him on the phone once (although, a lot of the hour or so wasn't even about hitting). Unlike lots of people, I'm honest enough to admit that I'm still learning when it comes to swinging a bat the "right" way (v. the way I swung growing up, and taught my DD and son until a year and a half ago), so I normally try to just watch these discussions, maybe ask a question occasionally, and make a few comments now and then.

You probably won't see many people really giving a lot of the details that are in Steve's DVDs, simply because he is in a business to sell them, and if you can get the info for free here (or somewhere else), then you won't buy his product. I think most people that are in his "camp" (I love that terminology, btw) respect his wishes in this regard. You may not agree with it, but that's how it is. I will say that to compare a one-handed swing to a MLB'er and say "see, he has no clue" doesn't make much sense to me....

I will hazard a guess that most anonymous posters on internet boards that continually ask this type of question about Steve's stuff or anyone else's stuff probably don't have the best intentions in mind anyway, they are probably just wanting something else to try to dissect in a negative manner.

Very soon my DD is going to start hitting lessons with an ex-MLB'er who uses Steve's material, and has for a while, I believe. I'm hoping to learn a lot myself in that "hands on" atmosphere with someone who has used the material to work with kids. If I get to that point, where I feel comfortable sharing my infinite wisdom with the masses (like several here seem to), then I will be happy to do so :)

I can respect that. He's running a business and needs to make a profit to stay in business.

Right. Most people that have questions about EH have an agenda and are out to get Steve. Most people are not genuinely interested in finding out more about the various hitting approaches that are being taught so they can become more informed and better teachers.

Yes, there is a good chance that some of his views and beliefs will be challenged and dissected. That's how people learn. If his material is accurate, then it will withstand the scrutiny.

I use mostly Epstein's material. I love it when someone disagrees with Epstein's material and states why they disagree with him. It forces me to double check my knowledge of what he teaches against what I see ML hitters doing.

In the end I almost always learn something.
