Is bunting considered "old softball"

Hmmm.....it’s too bad then that we don’t play for trophies. We run the squeeze very successfully - against extremely well-coached, disciplined defenses. We tend to play many of the same teams every season as the pool gets smaller the closer you get to the top. Many even know it’s coming as they know our coach very well and what he calls. We are still more successful with it than we aren’t successful with it.

Then why not bunt full time? Sounds like a perfect strategy that I would stick to

Oh geez - I’m not talking about every batter struggling and not getting a hit. If I have a bunny at 3B and the girl up to bat hasn’t been having a good day at the plate I’d have her bunt. Every team faces a pitcher that just has their number that day. If you haven’t seen it happen then you haven’t been around the game long enough.

We are extremely successful with it.

Oh geez - I’m not talking about every batter struggling and not getting a hit. If I have a bunny at 3B and the girl up to bat hasn’t been having a good day at the plate I’d have her bunt.

Statistically that girl who's been struggling is going to bunt to 2 strikes and get the K. Again if it was easy why not do it all the time? Why not have the girls who's hit well lay a bunt? You would be better off that way.

A bunt has a few options of certainties and batted ball has many many more

So you dont like options of strategy? Not all batters have the same skillsets. Different skillset levels in the line up too.

If I have a prolific bunter yes its a strategy, but I would prefer a barreled up ball to a bunt any day. If you look across the board your best bunters will be your best hitters

That is it. I’m not suggesting having our whole team bunt, or relying on it all the time to win games. Our coach would be crazy to ask our #4 hitter who has 22 HR this season to lay down a bunt with runners on - although ironically, she’s also one of our best bunters.

Teams that live by the bunt or charge their game plan to accommodate a lineup that's struggling will lose.
