When interference occurs, the ball is dead immediately and all runners return to the last base occupied at the time of the interference. The only way the runner would remain at 3rd would be if they had actually reached the base prior to the act of interference.
I’m glad you said that Comp ... I stayed away from it while posting the citation. I admit I read it twice and shook my head when I realized that it did NOT say anything about the runner(s) being returned. Yes, there is a theoretical situation (as you presented) where the runner would remain.
But if the runner was already there ... would it actually be interference?
