Bullpen sessions with my pitchers tonight and this weekend are going to be interesting. Going to try something.
So like Bill, I will make a prediction: Within one year of a change in the women rules allowing crowhopping they will move the pitching rubber back to 46 feet so as to get back to today's hitter reaction time and to avoid a ton of extremely dangerous ball strikes off pitchers heads.
For those that have pitched both ways, or have students that can do either, what kind of speed differences have you seen?
Do you see any increased potential for injury especially at the younger ages given the field conditions typically found in front of the pitchers plate? Have to believe that there will be an uptick in foot, ankle, and knee injuries. Especially when "coaches" start teaching this at 8U-10U.
Yes, I have those fears but what I fear most is the reduction of distance/reaction time for the pitcher. Some lawyer is going to get a lot of money from the people who knowingly changed the rule placing a kid in a potentially more dangerous situation.
Which means their follow up rule will be mandatory face masks
