No, I can't and would never tolerate it. If they cannot represent the game, the organization and the team with honor then they need to stay off the field. The game is not there as a platform for individuals to act out or make statements. If they want to do that then they can meet their BFF's at the mall and do what they want.

Once I again I have to throw out names like Geno Auriemma, Dawn Staley, John Wooden, Pat Summit, etc. I cannot imagine they would put up with this type of crap. I am sincerely hoping that Clint Meyers was oblivious to this as I expect better of him and his program.

you've gotta hold TW to the same standard, though....

like i said, the more i hear about the situation in the past it was, well, muddy at best........but i can still think of scenarios where as a coach i would let her not shake his hand and not make a huge deal about it

TW doesn't shove her, this thread doesn't exist

Those saying she needs to represent Auburn and her team appropriately are right in this case, I think. Initially, I felt she was well within her right to feel they she does, etc. After thinking about it more and seeing comments, I now agree that she needs to put her personal feelings assigned while she represents Auburn. I'm a firm believer in team first, in wanting your teammates to succeed before you want yourself to. Don't want to get political, but I think that's what's wrong with America. We've become too selfish.

riseball is a wiseball in this case. :)

EDIT - I still think TW should be fired for assaulting a player.

So none of you can think of a situation where this player came up to her coach and said "this is what I am going to do and why" and you would at least support her decision, even if you did not fully agree with it?

i certainly can think of some instances where i would have respected her decision and taken the fallout for it, even if i did not 100% agree with it......

I cannot think of any, no. As I stated in a previous post, IF the player can make a compelling case why she does not want to participate, I would ask her to stay in the dugout rather than displaying her protest on the field. At least that would give her an opportunity to avoid the situation she doesn't want to participate in, without turning it into a national level discussion. She is wearing a uniform that makes her a representative of the university. And if I, as the coach, permit her to do it, then it is a reflection on me as well.

TW as far as I know is a nice person (I've met him a few times) and he's apologized for any wrong doing.

Said Fagin sister continues to think she did nothing wrong and the Fagin family as a whole......well......yeah.

As a coach, I'm pretty sure that hitting a player on either team would be inappropriate. The apology is worthless.

agreed in part.....that would have been a reasonable solution, until someone calls her out for NOT shaking hands at all, but i agree....

she shook hands with her opponents, just not the staff.......going out on a limb and suspecting Myers, if he knew, didn't expect the shove to turn it into what we now have......

because of his record, I give Myers the benefit of the doubt.......but the shove is still the real issue here

Geno Auriemma: Auriemma's 2013–2018 salary is $10.9 million
Dawn Staley: Staley is set to make $1.1 million in 2015-16
Pat Summit: ...annual compensation is $1.125 million per year in base salary.
John Wooden: Wooden's final salary in the 1975 season, when he won his 10th NCAA title, was $40,500. ($175,358 adjusted).

You have a group of people that are/have earned enormous amounts of money on the backs of the youth of this country. You think I care what they have to say about honor and integrity?

I don't begrudge them for making the money that they did but I am certainly not looking at them for guidance on morals and ethics.

Actually, to amend my previous statement, she could've still shoved TW and walked away and this thread wouldn't exist.
It was her antics at drew attention to this.

Tim dismissed (2) fagans and Cheyenne Coyle just as the team started the 2012 post season, a critical time to make a major change. I'm thinking there must have been a good reason For a coach to remove (3) starters from the lineup at that point in the season. No one on either side talks about what happened, so we'll never know.

Whether Tim was wrong or not doesn't change her actions that followed. How about someone taking the high road for a change?

The rumors I have heard are that the three players were a cancer in the clubhouse and some of the other players were planning to go to Tim Walton to complain. When the three players found out about the conspiracy against them there was a physical confrontation with punches thrown at the player who was leading the uprising. After that happened all of the other players went to TW and told him they would not take the field with the 3 players mentioned. TW dismissed all 3 from the team and the rest as they say...is history.

While I think TW should never have touched her, if that was assault then there are a lot of coaches who should be in jail right now.

Their players are not youths. They are adults who to one degree or another are compensated . Make no mistake college athletics is a business, and in the case of some programs a very big business. While you may not personally look to them for guidance, many do just that and are more than happy to pay for the opportunity to hear them speak on various subjects.
