There have been some great pitching net recommendations here lately.

Does anyone have any recommendations on an indoor pitching mat with a regulation rubber? The mini-mats look interesting and very portable but have never had one.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

If you have the luxury of not having to move it..... you can do it cheap with this 2x2 foam flooring available at Lowes. It's the stuff you see in workout rooms. 2 packs will give you 4x8 coverage. To prevent the foam from wearing out, i glued mine to the concrete floor then glued outdoor carpet to the foam using flooring adhesive. 3 years and counting and it's still all good. I like the foam mat flooring because it absorbs a lot of the shock of the constant pounding on the body from multiple workouts per week.

Keep in mind that the top of a regulation rubber should be on the same grade as the surrounding dirt. That said, I use 3/8 inch rubbers on carpet or smooth surfaces, taped down with no-residue duct tape. Taken care of, the tape can be reused 2-3 times. At $10 per roll, I can go a whole winter indoor season with 1 to 2 rolls.

Try a 2x6 workshop mat, preferably anti-fatigue, duct taped to floor with regulation rubber. Holds up pretty well and cheap. If you have a Harbor Freight near by.... Floor mats are pretty cheap there.

Carpet runner from Home Depot (3' x 7'), yellow paint, nail down rubber, anchor bolts, old carpet scrap. Total cost under $50. This is the second carpet runner.

If you can find someone with the mines the heavy conveyor belts they replace every so often usually has a good section that can be used.

I like the foam idea. I got a carpet runner for this purpose but hadn't thought about putting foam underneath.

Thanks for all the great ideas everyone! Looks like I have a weekend project ahead of me and you have given me some great direction (and inspiration) to do myself!

If I had to do it again I would just go out and buy one, the one I built isn’t portable. I am sure I didn’t do it right.
