We'll practice early Sunday with the team and then drive to watch some college scrimmages at one of the schools DD is interested in.

No tournaments this weekend. DD has practice with a full team on Sunday. All the Missouri girls are back from HS.

DD all done with HSVB. She told the VBHC that she would miss a few games because of showcases. He told her to choose. So now she's all done with HS VB. VB teammates are unhappy, VB parents are unhappy, DD not happy but wasn't really a hard choice for her. HS now vs College future... I'm proud of her for her decision and myself for staying out of it.

Good Luck to all those playing this weekend!

This is the trouble for multi-sport kids. Being elite in one sport is a year-round commitment, while the other sports want full participation in the on-season, and would prefer the kid to be year-round as well.

DS knew a girl who actually found a way to handle TWO year-round sports at the same time: softball and rowing. She was one of the best HS softball players in the county, and one of the best female HS rowers in the country. Her teams were willing to accommodate her. During the fall she was 100% into rowing. Winter was several practices a week for rowing, and she went to all of those. If there was any time left over for winter softball practice, she took those in. Spring she was mostly softball, except she missed a few varsity softball games every year to spend spring break training with her rowing team in an undisclosed location in Tennessee, followed by a race in St. Louis. The rest of the spring was all HS softball, and summer was TB softball.

She was lucky she had understanding coaches. She wound up first-team all-conference as 1B, and got a full scholarship in rowing to Wisconsin.

I really feel bad for you that your DD's volleyball coach couldn't be as understanding. His way or the highway, so your DD had to take the highway.

Great job on your part letting her take care of it herself.

EDIT to add: the younger sister of the girl I mentioned above is doing exactly the same thing so far, and the same teams. Everybody wins twice.

Great weekend for me planned.

I have been working 1000 miles from home. After work I take a plane to Milwaukee, which unfortunately lands right as the last bus is leaving. So, DW will drive to MKE airport to pick me up, and complain about it a lot, and we head back (about 90 minutes) to Madison. Saturday I get to spend with my kids. Sunday DS is rowing in the Head of the Rock in Rockford, Illinois, which is the biggest rowing event in the Midwest every year. So DW and as many DDs as want to go will head down to Rockford. Weather is supposed to be sunny and high 70s. Perfect. After that, depending on DS' homework situation, either he takes the team van back to Milwaukee, or else we drive him to Milwaukee, have dinner with him, and then drive back to Madison. If he has a lot of homework, we will just head back to Madison. If we are lucky, we might get back for a team meeting for DD 3's new softball team. I would really love to go to that. DD 3 has played with most of the girls on the team before in either LL or a previous TB team or both, but there are 4 girls on the team with whom she hasn't played. They just know her as the girl who pitched so well against them in a tourney last summer, and they are very happy to have her on their side for a change.
Monday, DW drives me back to MKE airport, and back to the grind. At least I will have over a week with the family for Thanksgiving.
Tough life, but we have to do what we have to do. I certainly miss the house, and DW, and all the kids.
But, I saw DW and the kids for a few weeks in August. It's been since late July that I last saw my DOG! Got to keep priorities straight. Looking forward to taking my aging Husky out for some walks.
