The swing is decent. I just get the feeling she is still learning and I'm sure she is getting better.
Mann, might be describing it differently then myself. The only other person I've heard this was through Mike Huber. I've never heard anyone else on a message board describe the hip action and arching the back together.
I sure hope she is still learning and getting better. She's 10 and loves the game. I don't think she has yet reached her peak of performance.
It's been discussed for a while now under different names .... for example, the spine engine.
TM 2014 - "That action {lateral tilt}....CAUSES....the rear hip/leg to project forward. The rear hip/leg does not project first to stretch the system, then fire. That would bleed the corner. The projection is a RESULT of explosive lateral tilt..."
How does a lateral tilt cause the rear hip/leg to project forward?
Shawn, the pelvis is tilted anteriorally (buckle down) during transition, with the lower back arched. This is a golf move that translates well to the bat swing. You will also see that Votto has a significant lateral bending during this phase of the swing. The lateral compression combined with arched back (lordosis) is taught as a way to fire the fused leg/hip assemble forward from pivot. Cleat traction and lower leg torque automatically send the knee in and down without upper leg drive as is sometimes suggested. If you want to know how to feel this, you can PM me. It's an eye opener when your rear hip comes around as a reaction to this move and detachment of the rear heel.
