i've seen quite a bit pitching backswings or the lack of it, but this one is the strangest one that i've seen so far.
is there any benefit at all to this excess backswing motion?

This hurts my back just watching.....seems like a lot of wasted energy. BUT, I bet makes for interesting viewing during a game. Ouch

love the slow drop at the end...the kid looks really athletic but whoever taught her to pitch should be drawn and quartered. She is putting so much unneeded stress in so many places, I wouldn't be surprised if one of her pitches gets to the plate with her arm still attached to it one day. But buried in all of that flail is an I/R seed that would have made her great if it was properly coached.

True, I have seen it happen... right at the elbow...

uhhh wonder how many innings she lasts, and I bet her shoulder is so sore the next day she can not get out of bed :(

I enjoyed watching her. I wouldn't let mine go that route but who's to say if it works for her. Most girls mechanics let you see where some more speed can be gotten, but in this case I don't know if that shoulder/lower back is going to last. For her sake, I hope she has a long and productive career.
