I know I'm going to take some heat for this, but Gillis appears to pitch a bit like a muscly guy would pitch. Don't get me wrong, because he is clearly muscly, even somewhat like a gorilla. Given that, I think that while his mechanics are appealing and all, he seems to be drawing a bit more on his muscles than a female would be able to do. Maybe that's why female pitchers generally look more loose with their arms than he does. I dunno.

I don't care who it is........BH......RB......DG.......Hell even HS........And a thousand others.........

Put these men (in their prime) in a weight room with Pauly, Finch, Fernandez, Smith, Ueno, and on and on and on and on and on..........There IS NO COMPARISON of the strength of men vs. the strength of women..........

Bench Press.......Leg Press........Squats..........Military Press..........Bicep Curl.......Lat Pull Downs..........Tricep Extension..........YOU NAME IT..........It ain't the same..........

Just sayin..........:)

Anyway, Rope, that a good explanation of why it's called "elbow snap"......Thx......

I just can't picture what "Elbow Snap" really is.........

For example........If someone, like one of his students asked Bill "what is elbow snap?"........What would be his short answer? Surely it wouldn't be "well elbow snap isn't wrist snap" as his only answer.........

Bill......Care to help me with this term???

It is one thing to be a coach on the sideline, be Johnny Miller (ex-player) in the booth, or an armchair analyst on the coach,

I'm assuming this refers to yourself screwball.........Since you we neither a pitcher.......Nor a pitching coach........

I'm hoping someone (hopefully Bill) can explain "elbow snap", with slightly more information then "arm whip".........For my education......Because some of us ACTUALLY COACH/TEACH pitchers, unlike yourself.........

Regarding this side view:
2. IMO, as the stride foot lands, I would encourage a 45 degree angle. She is close, but I would try to get her just a little more open, I think this would help her hips open a little more.
IMO (and this is not to start a war...) I think the variance we see in 'opening' is due in part to the fact that the single pump she uses causes her to open/close twice. Once premotion, and then after 3. This excessive movement is hard for anyone to control and perform with consistent results.

4. At release, and this may be nit picking, and I may also be off base, but I feel like she has a slight bend at her waist. My DD also does this at times. I feel this is kind of a bowlers move, and a leak of power. Look at Amanda, Jennie, and Fico in the model pitchers thread and they all finish without a bend in the waste, as if all their momentum and power was delivered to the ball.

Alternatively, (and I've not broken down the frames or watched any of the other videos...) she throws a decent drop ball because of the elevation in release that the 'hinge' (Rick P reference...) in her waist creates. She seems to maintain a decent posture... and then on stride foot load, hinges to vertical. If she throws a rise... she'll need to maintain the posture she creates over-the-top... but maybe she does...?

BM, I think it's just the semantics. At lessons I've heard Bill use "Whip"... "Snap".... basically trying to find whatever phrase makes my DD understand that action he's looking for. I'm really not sure what's confusing about that, can you elaborate? I guess I just don't understand if you think there's something wrong with the action itself of trying to get as much action out of the elbow as possible.

I get using different terms to strike a note with a student CG..........But those terms have to MEAN SOMETHING don't they? Just last Sunday I used the analogy of a "tilt-a-whirl" carnival ride to get a 12yo student to understand how overlap helps whip.......She understood that because I explained the movements that I was trying to teach her......

Just saying "I need some overlap" is useless........It's just words........A phrase..........

"I want you to whip" or "I want you to elbow snap".......Those are just words........Phrases.......That could mean ANYTHING without an explanation of the ACTIONS behind them...........

I'm really not sure what's confusing about that, can you elaborate?

I have already......WHAT DOES ELBOW SNAP MEAN??? What action accurately describes "Elbow Snap"? Is it straighten the elbow quickly? It is bend the elbow at a certain point in the delivery? It is rotate the elbow somehow or some direction?

I'm trying to find out what the heck "ELBOW SNAP" is???..........When you tell a student "I teach elbow snap".......What does that mean?.........When you tell a student "I need better elbow snap".........What does that mean???

I guess I just don't understand if you think there's something wrong with the action itself of trying to get as much action out of the elbow as possible.

I'm not saying anything positive OR negative about Elbow Snap........I have no idea what it is or what it means.......;

I'm trying to learn that here from people who spend time with Bill.......Or from Bill himself..........

So far.......No one can tell me what elbow snap is..........That is a red flag for me..........

If it's the same as I/R.......How does "Elbow Snap" contribute........And WHAT IS IT???

That's all............
