I am sorry that you cannot see the same mechanics are being applied wrt to early rearward barrel turn as what is being demoed by Rich and what is being learned by the young player.

You are getting too hung up on seeing the barrel continuing down the early rearward barrel turn during the learning process swinging at air....

As I look at TM's demonstration in #3, his hand set up (well below his back armpit) isn't where a hitter initially sets her hands. If you look at where hitters set their hands (at or above the armpit in almost every case), rearward barrel turn/turning the triangle after unloading the front-side stretch will still allow a hitter to hit a high pitch. It looks like the Felder clip shows that. In other words, if TM set his hands higher in the demonstration clip, that may "show" better to people trying to see how it can work on a higher pitch.

JUst like in this swing you posted. She turns shoulders elbows and when the knob faces the pitcher she releases the wrists about when her hands get even with her front knee hitting the ball around her front heel.
That is the bat leg
I get it that you teach...give the verbal cue to the hitter to turn the barrel.

But wrist release, and how much you rotate holding on to the knob is dictated by pitch height and the degree of if it is inside or an outside pitch.

Take the SNF and the mechanics you are saying you teach and hit high inside pitches....That is where I would pitch your players.

Why would I tell my dd to swing at a ball out of the strike zone?

Chest high across the letters is not a strike where you play?
That is where the ball is with most high school age girls or my daughter. Casey and I hit this.

Check out the ball height 2 posts up? I would say a strike could be called a few inch's higher than that ball.....

SL,

I've posted a video of Brooke hitting a rise shoulder high for a game winning HR on here so turning the barrel will hit any pitch at any location. I really think you have the totally wrong visual of what turning the barrel is. There is no denying the instant torque the hands but on the handle from the start. You guys are visualizing the bat getting casted out wide and unhinging from go and that's not it. Swing a bat a focus on the pressure on the hands it's really not complicated.

Here in the northeast, the tournament umps do not give the high strike across the letters nor the knee high strike. They want it on a friggin tee. I know what the strike zone is, that set up of yours would be at or close to her neck. What is that contraption the ball is resting on?

I see the demo of TM different with that barrel whip underneath hitting high balls.

Crankermo.
If you dont have a casting out swing, and you keep the hands with a fairly tight hand pivot point for a good hand path. How do you not turn the barrel?
That is why I say it is a no teach for me. Not trying to put anyone down that use's that cue.
