Interested in the different methods of running the bases. I have seen the bow out at 1B, and also seen running straight to the bag and make a "football" cut towards the next base. What do you guys teach to improve running times?

The girls I have cutting 2 45 degree turns 1 just before 1 just after definately ran the bases in shorter times than girls rounding the bases.

I corrected my post. Have no idea about the NE times if they were in sloppy weather or not. Two NFCA camps have been reported no one beats 3.04. The Sting Ray camp was in rain, so I will guess when they come out next week the times are slow. Just trying to figure out why someone in Ga was in the NE, but I guess if you were then you would know if it was raining or not!

My twitter friend Raven Chavanne is 2.65. Yes, she is an exception, but I bet that most major d1 girls are faster than 3.35. I go by that, since my DD could run that in HS and she was only relatively fast.

My dd was timed at 2.84 and at showcase camps only one kid has ever beat her in 3 years. Playing on a Gold team this weekend the coaches stated she was one of the fastest kids they have seen traveling the country.

There are factors other than speed involved in timing. Probably the one with the most room for error is the timekeeper. The slower the timekeeper's reaction, the faster the time to first.

My 82-year-old grandmother started jogging 5 miles a day. We haven't seen her since. :)

We have a 9 yr old on my DD's team that is a freak of nature when it comes to speed. She timed quicker around the bases than 9 out of 12 of the U16's on my oldest DD's team. I was told she was being timed at 11.9 around the bases. I've been around softball for 7 years now and I've never seen an athlete like this kid on any team at any tournament.

Boy opinions are all over the place on this. My DD did a tryout for a tournament team. She turned 11 last week. She was timed at 3.7. I have no basis to compare it to other than she looked faster than all but a few of the other girls. Is 3.7 above average at this age? How does one work at getting quicker to first? I assume 99% of it is what you are born with?

Technique will help significantly and most girls that age have a lot to improve on in this area. I've seen it with my own 13yr old daughter going from 3.9 to 3.4 with big improvements in technique as well as working out etc...
