So Cal
after the workout on Friday , she was offered a spot on the team! we are still gonna do the offer of a couple friendlies and a tournament to see how she likes it, but DD really likes the girls on the team and they invited her over for a team sleepover/ bbq next weekend and DD wants to go... so I guess we are a TB family now!

Congrats and enjoy the ride. As things move forward for you guys, keep in mind that good coaching, good playing time (this doesn't mean every single inning), and enjoying her teammates is WAY more important at this age than how many plastic trophies the team wins.

So Cal
I am at the same place with my dd. She currently plays on an 8u rec league "travel team" and is required to play rec ball. She has been telling me for a couple of weeks now that she hates rec ball, the other girls can't catch so she's afraid to throw to them and she gets confused as to wether or not she should just chase people for outs. She will be moving up to 10u after all stars and as of now she says she wants to try out for dedicated travel teams and see what happens. Part of me wants to do that but I also hate to leave our local league. I played on the same fields 30 plus years ago and it stinks to walk away from it. She has made some really good friends on our "travel team" and that has to be a hard thing for her to decide to walk away from. We have talked and I told her my thoughts but that it is entirely up to her. We already know for sure that 3 other girls are leaving and they are wanting us to all try and land somewhere else together so that would be good if it works out that way.

If she is having to hold back her game out of fear of hurting her rec teammates, it's time to move on. I've seen talented young players stay in that situation too long, and skills will often stagnate - or even regress - due to a lack of being challenged.

I understand the sentiment to the home fields. I will always consider our rec league "home".

If your daughter loves to play she will be in heaven with TB. My 8 year old is playing 10U and last weekend after playing 6 games in 3 days she wanted to stay and watch
the other games after her team had been eliminated. Dad let her watch 1 more game but then I needed to go home and rest  They play tournaments, on average every
other week, and whenever they don't play a weekend she is upset. She's asked me why they don't play every week and the only answer which she will accept is that people
need to cut their grass ;) Hopefully this enjoyment will last through puberty but who knows..

What you have right there is the Magic! Your DD is hooked on a sport that will push her, challenge her and make her understand the value of hard work and tenacity. It's a beautiful place to be!
