Why would the coaches actually want someone who knows how to accurately keep score? it looks much better stat-wise when the scorekeepers don't know what they're doing.

Clueless score keepers may bolster some batting averages, but it also tends to ballon the pitchers ERAs.

DD1 went 2/3 last night. One was a hard line drive, but right to SS who caught it. Had real nice backhand snag at 2nd base on D, it was a hard shot. Made some other plays, but nothing exciting. Other team was real weak, run ruled them in 4th inning I think. She is on JV, but was told that she was going to bat in V game that was supposed to start at 7 under lights. Umpires ruled field was to wet and canceled.

DD2 plays tonight, hopefully she will pitch.

Agreed! But the post was in jest;) Then again, you raise a serious question. What do head coaches in college actually look at? I would assume both stats. However, after my DD's recruitment process with most of them saying (as a hitter being recruited), " If you can hit, we'll find a spot on the field for you." I would assume that they plan their pitching strategies around the other teams hitters. I understand that we are talking HS here and I really don't want to hi-jack the thread, but it may be an informative discussion on another forum and thread.

I wouldn't think college coaches are going to care much about high school stats. Not sure if that's what you were saying/asking. The problem w/ HS stats isn't just that scorekeepers aren't reliable. It's also that quality of schedule can play havoc. Playing just a few games against terrible teams where fly balls blossom into triples can ruin the credibility of HS stats. Heck, our team batting average might go up 30 points if we just got the chance to face our own pitchers twice like everybody else in our conference. We call them the slump-busters.

CB, I was thinking more along the lines at the collegiate level where they're a little more dependable.

I wasn't sure, I thought you might've meant college. I don't know about college coaches, or even if this was what you're getting at, but when I look at college stats, I make sure to look at ''stats in the conference'' in addition to overall. The conference stats help level the playing field (strength of schedule) when comparing players in the conference. I'm a Georgia fan, and any SEC team is going to have very impressive stats because the SEC is so strong and they pound their non-conference opposition. But when you look at UGA's SEC stats, you see what players' talents scale to the highest levels and which ones don't. You see why they're in last place. Things like home runs and stolen bases often have a threshhold for lack of better word. Players can be power hitters or stolen-base demons or strikeout artists up to a certain level, but their special powers disappear once they hit a certain level. Doesn't mean those players who struggle in the SEC aren't still very, very good (after all, it's the SEC), but it provides a truer perspective of the food chain.

Well with one regular season game left we have a record of 28-4-1, 16-0 in district play. All four of our losses and our tie was in tournament play with only one loss coming from an in state team. District tourney starts next week and if we can win the district tourney, the road to state looks pretty good.

DD1 went 3/3 last night. Played a really weak team though. Won 16-7. Had a girl pitching that I think was pitching her 2nd game ever. I can pitch faster, more consistent then her. Not knocking her, just making a comparison. Takes very small step instead of stride, hips closed the entire time, shoulders stay square to the plate the entire motion when pitching. I would love to help her, cause she is tall and pretty athletic, but I have had my differences with the coaching staff and don't want to cause any more problems.

DD2 in JH will pitch tonight. Had a great tournament this weekend, pitched her first no hitter against a local rival (with some players that left our org to go to this team cause they said they wanted to "win". We went 19-5 last season). We went on to win the tournament. She was pitching great. Umpire told my wife that he hasn't seen a 12 yr old move the ball like that in a long time and loved watching her pitch. Should be a good game for her tonight.

JV team lost 5th game of season last night 6-4. Game called in 5th due to darkness. We had to play after varsity and it was cold, rainy and 23 mph wind. We have somewhere in the area of 12 wins and have won a tournament. One of the neatest parts of last night's game was that the varsity was told that they could go sit on the bus and didn't have to watch JV. They had a come from behind conference win. Instead, they sat in the dugout and kind of served as another coach. It was pretty neat hearing them talk to the young ones.
