If nothing else have them umpire the game, what could go wrong with that?
Saturday afternoon we had a new player come tryout for my DD's 1st year 14U team. She was recommended by a friend who coaches middle school. He billed her as super athletic, but limited in experience. She turned out to be better than advertised; she killed it in agility drills and when the girls were warming up their arms it was very apparent she had a good glove and was very coordinated. Then hitting off the light flight machine, she struggled for the first five or six balls then jacked one across the gym we practice in; who hits a home run during their tryout?
However, there is one thing about her that I had to have a discussion with the head coach about; she was brought to practice by her grandparents and what I thought was her brother, but later learned was...her boyfriend.
I'm afraid this may be contagious.
Seriously??? A 14U girl brought her boyfriend to a practice and you make a thread about this acting like it's unacceptable for a player to have any sort of life outside of your team? Were they making out during water breaks? Was she batting her eyes at him during infield practice?
Get off your high horse. Get a life, as your tryout prospect already has. There's more to life than softball, kuddos to the girl that realizes it. I'll be damned if I ever let any one of my daughters play for a coach that gets irritated at a boyfriend showing up to practice.
Of course, it's a joke!
