I'll pass on what the sports medicine guy told my 8 year old when she developed biceps tendonitis, this guy works with many injured football, baseball, softball players

When they get their hand behind the ball at the top of the circle it causes their arm to basically lock straight and puts all the stress on their upper arm and shoulder.

My daughter had to be taught all over how to do it right. Having the ball towards the batter/catcher at 12 o'clock virtually guarantees they can't be locking their elbow (unless they have a very flexible shoulder joint) and will prevent injuries. I can't promise it will make them a better or worse pitcher, but I am pretty sure its much safer for the arm. I went after all the medical research on it, and from what I read, it makes sense from a bio-mechanic standpoint.
