The only reason anyone would teach a child to shorten there stride due to the pitch is because he doesn't know how to convey the proper way to get the proper release angle ... shortening the stride would force the pitcher to transfer weight to the front foot earlier...
which would probably also cause them to fall forward with the upper torso ... which would adjust the release angle albeit in the wrong way .... just simply through the release phase get the feeling of lifting the rear hip level or if need be slightly higher then the front hip ... I believe if she can not accomplish this then her stride is to long or faulty in the first place similar to trying to reach out with the stride foot to get stride distance that way (My DD does it)
