DD is having trouble getting the right speed differential between fastball and change-up. Any tidbits that you might have would be appreciated. We have tried different grips...she throws them accurately, but struggles with velocity.

Thanks in advance.

The grip is one way to limit speed. My guess is that she isn't limiting internal rotation of the arm enough.

Search for Rick Pauley change up.

She started out trying the horseshoe or circle change. But we have tinkered with several other grips (palming the ball, knuckle, etc.). Everything is just too hard.

grip, schmip......
all that really matters is: how is she reducing speed while being deceptive?....
simply rotate the arm to fingers outside the ball by 9:00 and release the ball with the thumb nail at the hip...(this will negate ALL ir whip)
ps. speed UP the arm circle, and for GODS sake don't lean forward.

Thanks for the links Ken B. And Coach James, we have just started working with rotating the hand. As with everything else, it will take time to get used to.

Just for the heck of it have her try this:

Do everything normal like a fastball but tell her this is your release.

Have your hand sideways and on your release act like you are poking the catcher in the nose with your thumb. No happy elbow, no turning your hand over, just jab the catcher in the nose with her thumb (no higher).

Let us know what happens. 100% money back guarantee if not satisfied.

Lhowser - I kinda like that suggestion! My DD has been working on this issue and that technique and the wording/imagery of it might just click with her. BTW, her twin sister is her catcher. ;-)

If her change-up is too fast compared to her fastest pitch, have her throw the flip (back of hand) change. If that change-up is too slow to throw often, work on an off-speed pitch like a knuckle-curve ball (this assumes she can throw a regular curve ball?). Eventually she will need three speeds: maximum velocity, off-speed, and change-up.
