There is a girl with an overhand throwing speed of 60 MPH. She is an excellent athlete, and has played softball for many years. She has scholarship offers from several major mid-west D1 schools. She is 16YOA. She is 6'0" with good foot speed.

From out of the blue, she now wants to pitch. How long will it take for her to become a "good" pitcher? Or is it too late?

What are her realistic plans? Is she planning on getting a scholarship in her position with the label--"can also pitch". Or does she want to be in the pitchers rotation in college?

Overhand is the same as underhand, in degree of difficulty. If she tells herself she can, and has a partner to work with, and she chooses the right processes... (gets the right DVD)... two weeks of boot camping it...could be ready in a month... I read on here that every girl on AZ. had to pitch. It will make her a better player, pitch or not....

It would take 6 months just to learn a FB and a CU. I get athletic teens a few times a year that think that they want to pitch. What they don't want to do, is the hour of work 5 times a day, to get there.

If she is a junior in H.S and ready to put many hours into it then it will work.If she is that athletic she will be picked up. Most of the time the best athletes are the pitchers anyway.

Love to get a bet on this one.... sanchosj...Glad someone else can see it... I've been watching D1 mid-western this year. $2000.00 & I'll put her up in a dorm on a campus, 30 days. Then bet the $2000 that she can beat the #2 pitcher at my choice of the D1's where she has offers from...Umps being the a board of director's of the school, and a friendly with another team local to them, of my choosing... Winner takes all... That's if she hasn't had too many lessons...... I get the movie rights also...if you think I'm kidding, tweet Redford, and ask him why he wants to re-shoot "the Horse Whisper" :{)

It takes about a solid year to become a serviceable pitcher. If she starts now could start getting game time in the fall and pitch her senior year in high school.
