JJ is right, IMO.

Although you don't shorten the stride in the mind of a pitcher, you do tell her to get her stride leg foot down hard and fast... as an effort to get her weight... and subsequently... her posture forward. MK's DD is most likely spinning up to go down... instead of getting her body up... so she can spin down. Make sure her drive is powerful... so that her backside can come into her front side, powerfully. This will raise her release point... so she has an easier time spinning down the new elevation she created.

Thank you everyone for your comments and suggestions. You've given me the direction I need to help her.

DD has gone through a growth spirt where she is now about 5'8" with very long arms and she is 14. Between growing and working on velocity, her speed has improved. She is now having trouble with the dropball not dropping. She has good spin and the correct rotation. I'm thinking it's because her release point is off, not sure. What are some ways to work on this?

One other thing that really helps with the dropball (and all spins) is investing in a revfire. Knowing the spin rate really helps to give her feedback.

PC- A dropball really should not be a pitch that girls get under. At it's best it will cause a girl to swing over it, and it is designed more to induce weakly hit ground balls. It should start off as a pitch that looks like a thigh high pitch and then drop to below the knees at least. (excuse the large picture canvas...my photo editing skills are not nearly as good as PCs.

Thats what I mean also. On this drop, your pinky & thumb hold the axis, the other three provide the spin. Gotta get that pinky strong.

DD had traumatic injury to her pinky in her pitching hand. 45 minute surgery to pin it and get the bones back in semi-place.
She did 6 weeks of re-hab on a pinky finger. She had a top notch sports orthopedic doctor that explained to us the importance of her pinky in pitching, because up to that point I was thinking chop it off.:(
