I wouldn't think so if she is really motivated and you know what you're doing (or have a good pc coach lined up for her). Here's the thing though...a pitcher works as hard and probably WAY harder than any other position on the team. Once you start pitching, you will probably be giving up time...
Thanks for the advice. With TB season in full swing I'm not going to do anything drastic....I've just been telling her to concentrate on whipping her arm and letting it finish naturally. We'll get serious about IR after the season.
It's kind if interesting....I was talking to her Jr High...
How did you start and what were your key focal points? What advice would you give a guy who is going to do this? I don't see it as a major change. Based on my limited understanding, it is more a matter of stopping the elbow at the hip, whipping the arm, and letting the throwing arm go where...
Good post. You honestly have to do some coaching to truly appreciate everything they do. They have earned at least the benefit of the doubt, and at the end of the day, they probably stepped up because 8 other dads wouldn't. Learn all you can and step up.
Disclaimer: I'm an AC for one kid's rec and another's TB team. I do not play Daddy ball and cringe when I see my kids getting preferential treatment because of my participation. That being said, a coach puts in a lot of time and has to deal with a lot of crap behind the scenes. From whiny or...
I think they are good to use as a part of your program. Obviously a ball flying in at a consistent speed in pretty much the same place has its pros and cons. If you have a kid that is struggling with game speed, I think it's great to help them develop some confidence and better timing. It...
I tend to agree that it is generally best not to blindly follow, especially an internet forum. But the case for IR (or whatever you want to call it) is pretty clear. You simply don't see many college pitchers who don't use IR. Occasionally it kind of looks like Ivy Renfro forces a hello...
It happens. At the end of the day, you really have to look at what they have produced. I'm sure there are lots of PCs who have produced college pitchers who never pitched. That being said, given the choice, I'll go with a former pitcher, but I'd be OK sending my kid to a non-pitching PC who...
We've been working on a rollover drop, and occasionally if the spin tilts off the 12 to 6 axis, more like 10:30 to 5:30, we get a nasty "crop". I wish she would do it every time. It is probably just what happened as she was learning the rollover drop.
Very true...if she's throwing well right now, you might wait for the off-season to correct things. When you fix one issue, another one almost always pops up.
Stay tall, don't lean forward. Tell her to get her nose up in the air or to stick her chest out. That's a real common problem, but if she's only pitched for 4 months, it shouldn't be too hard to break. We did a lot of flamingo drills to work through leaning. If you get her sticking her nose...
You could try a traditional screwball, but for a kid your daughter's age, you might think about a cutter. It's probably going to be easier for her. I picked this one up from watching some Hillhouse videos. Just have her grip a fastball on the "C", then slide her middle and index fingers...
DD hits with fairly level shoulders. How do I get her to start tilting in towards the plate more when she swings? She's a righty...is the level thing a product of her top hand dominating the swing...
I want to integrate the SnF drill with my DDs. I have seen videos, but could some of you post the key things to focus on, variations, rationale, things NOT to do, common errors etc. for the drill? I want to get started doing it the right way. A video or two would be helpful actually.
Funny you should mention that...my DD is swinging a newer gray and blue 454 Legit -10. I believe she would concur with your opinion. Last year she used a purple Rip-It and liked it. You just don't see too many people using the Rip-Its.
It's tough when a kid works as hard as a pitcher has to work and has to play 5 and 6 out innings. That being said, you win and lose as a team, and you can't enable the "poor me" attitude. My kid has struggled with similar issues. I try to spin it into a positive, by explaining that (assuming...
