coachlisle: stop telling hitters to hit the outside pitch deep

Gotcha. Wasn't sure if we were on the same page or not.

coachlisle: stop telling hitters to hit the outside pitch deep

Trying my best to pay attention to hands. Starts are the same yes. Point of contact something has changed. In the left you can barely see the hands. Middle you can see the right hand. On the right you see both. Where contact is taking place is different.

coachlisle: stop telling hitters to hit the outside pitch deep

The gif on the right is the only one with a one handed follow through. Wonder why that is? Where the hands are at contact is different. Getting the hands out to the ball more would help being able to hit the outside pitch closer to the front foot than what is usually taught.

    Wristband Playcards

I think many coaches, especially college level, have begun to use them to keep teams from being able to pick signs from the opposing coach to gain an advantage and not that they think the players are not smart enough to get the sign. We use them on offense, but not for the pitcher/catcher. I'm...

    Cutoffs

This also what we switched to. No matter how much we practiced it, the first basemen was late getting to the middle and our pitcher never got to backing up home. Since she was always standing there, and one of our best athletes, she takes the cut home and the first basemen is our backup. This...

The myth of the balanced lineup

A lot of baseball numbers have been used for this. It took me a while, but since 2009 here are how many at bats 1-5 have averaged a season for our varsity team. 1- 96 2- 93 3- 91 4- 90 5- 86 It may only be 10 at bats more a season, but they could be significant. For us, our lead off is...

The myth of the balanced lineup

Agree that 3 hole should be one of your better hitters. I look at it as the first 3 spots in the order are going to get the most at bats during a game and throughout the season. Who do I want to get the extra opportunities?

    Interesting blog on multi-sport athletes.

I'm a little late into the discussion, so I'm sorry if I repeat something somebody said previously. I think the main thing college coaches want is an athletic kid. Coaches believe they can teach better skills but athleticism is not that teachable. Some skill is required, especially for...

The State of Softball with Sue Enquist (Jan. 15, 2015)

I understand and respect your point. We just differ in some opinions or beliefs.

The State of Softball with Sue Enquist (Jan. 15, 2015)

I understand the point you are trying to make with better quality at the higher end. The issue is that at 9, 10, 11 and perhaps even 12 years old it is a little early in a child's development to be writing them off as a softball player. I have seen many girls who were considered not very good...

The State of Softball with Sue Enquist (Jan. 15, 2015)

That's fine for pitchers and catchers, but what about the other 7 girls on the field that hate the game because they just stand and watch the whole game? The reason REC and travel are different is because REC is to focus on giving all the opportunity to learn the game in a positive environment...

The State of Softball with Sue Enquist (Jan. 15, 2015)

The local rec league in my area has the same problem with pitching. I think 9-10 years old is young to start kid pitch in rec leagues. We lose many kids because they hate the experience. The game is slow, boring and they learn nothing during the game because an AB results in either a K or a...
