That's Miss Buttermakers hitter they were "making great progress" then I guess what he was teaching them became terrible all of a sudden. So I guess good for them if they now have a better way.

The Ragin Cajuns drill I gifed is the one legged drill.

Maybe you could show any hitter you work with instead of dreaming about me and what I do?

Thanks RD. I was just searching for those gifs. A couple things; I never really go into the one legged drill but have absolutely nothing against. It is just a matter of what works to get the kid improvement. The one legged drill, snf drill, and the such (along with the uptick barrel turn drill that haters often call a barrel dump)... #1 they are drills! Haters will always post that it doesn't match the swing the best are doing....well they are a drill. #2. It's about getting the kids or yourself improvement. If you are working with kids and yourself as hard as you should be, you know you have plenty of time to figure out what works for you and the kid and what doesn't work. They people that go nutso on here that act like if you do a one legged drill you are doomed for life are quit clearly not swinging enough or at all to be thinking/saying "it ruined my child". If it isn't making improvement, don't do it. #3. The first thing I was told by TM when I started talking o him about HI, (I don't talk to him anymore, no reason, just don't. And my thoughts on the swing are MINE, no one else!), we talked about kids. Kids that hit hard almost always hit hard with a ton of forward momentum. These drills are about learning to hit hard WITHOUT any forward momentum. THEN when you learn to hit hard without pushing forward, forward movement can be introduced.

Now One legged swinging, no front leg. I wrote a ton about it on fp26 thread on bbd. Builder also wrote the same ideas. Go read it, see how several who already know (well except SL can't understand) misrepresent it.

FWIW, the link I added on one of my previous posts in this thread will take you to that thread on BBD. There were several helpful posts from RHC throughout the first few pages. As someone else recently pointed out, these threads have a way of deteriorating in a hurry. There are many involved on DFP and BBD that believe strongly in the systems that they use. Sometimes the discussions get heated (ok, most of the time...). But I am thankful to all of those that participated in that thread that kept the discussion civil and informative for as long as it did. It was very helpful to my understanding of the theories.

Ultimately it is up to the coach/dad/instructor to figure out the best method to help their son/daughter/players. All to often it seems as though some people feel there are only two types of swings; High Level and Garbage. Personally I don't see it that way. While we should always strive to improve and should have a goal in mind, there is nothing wrong with having a good swing that eventually develops into a very good swing, and so on. It is a journey. There are no quick fixes. JMHO.

Yes FP! IMO high level is the goal to shoot for. For me, it's Manny, Agon, and Cutch...of course Miggy and others. That said, it is the target, and IMO many many mlb players and a majority of softball girls don't swing a high level swing...they are still obviously successful, but not a target to model.

If you don't agree with him, or his leader... he gets all red underneath. I see he is chasing you around now.
Poor guy has Buttermaker, Straightleg envy...:D

Agree 100%, that's why I don't make things so technical and try to find the few things that seem the most common.

Oh you! You caught me! It all those in depth hitting mechanics you discuss! How could anyone not be jealous? I mean wow! Thing like "I would use the Howard/Bustos grip" to fix every swing....OMG! You should start your own business.....OH WAIT!!!! You do charge little kids for that advice! Well worth it!

Buttermaker, so smart of you to team up with him on swing theory/hitting instruction.:D

Low and outside
IMO many many mlb players and a majority of softball girls don't swing a high level swing.

A major league roster is 25 players: 12 pitchers and 13 position players. 13 hitters x 30 teams = Some of the 390 best hitters on the entire planet don't have a "high level swing." Interesting.
